Persil claim that they are one of the favourite washing powders in the UK, a claim I am not about to dispute. It is indeed my powder of choice, the original non bio one. I have tried thier other formats - liquids and tablets but feel more in control with the powder.
The name is derived from its two main ingredients :- perborate and silicate (Persil).
There are 3 types of skin type in my household, normal bordering elephant hide, that will withstand almost anything. Fairly sensetive skin, prone to occasional dry/eczema patches and very sensitive skin - reacts to a wide variety of household products. It is with this in mind when I purchase washing powders. Biological powders are no good as they contain enzymes to denature stains on clothes, these irritate the skin to the max, so non biological powders are the way for me. Plus Persil is dermatologically tested, which gives me extra peace of mind that it wont affect my family's skin adversely.

The box does warn that persil powder can fade colours as it contains bleaching agents and they suggest another of their products (surprise surprise) - Persil colour care. I haven't used this so can't really comment on its effectiveness.
I find that I am extremely happy with the results using Persil non biological powder, although their recommended doses do seem too much, so I tend to use 3/4 of their recommended dose.
The clothes come out of the wash clean. What more do you want from your wash powder!
In all seriousness they are very clean, feel clean and smell clean. The fragrance is not too strong either - I found that people who complained the fragrance was too strong, were those who either used too much powder for the amount of washing done, or their machine was rinsing them inefficiently.
THe clothes do retaine their fresh scent too, when stored in drawers and wardrobes, my clothes always smell just washed when i get them out.
I have not noticed a problem with persil bleaching colours out of clothes, a lot of the colours I wear are dark, but they appear to hold their colour well. The bright coloured clothes and whites are very bright which increases my faith in the performance of the product. Persil has tackled some pretty nasty grime on my behalf, not least the clothes I brought back from India - that had already been washed for me prior to my departure. The whites were distinctly errr NON white, but their brightness soon was restored after a wash with my trusty persil.
I highly recommend its use to everyone, if you are concerned about using it on babies clothes - don't be, I used to gives James' clothes an extra swill just to make sure. The one time I forgot to do this, there were no adverse effects, so I never have done again.
In addition to the powders performance on my washing I am also pleased with the responsible attitude UniLever takes towards the environment, all the components of the powders are biodegradable - meaning they are broken down into harmless materials once processed by sewage treatments.
The price below is for 1.35kg of powder, I tend to use the 9kg boxes of powder as I find it more cost effective. The price is from Tescos.
Advantages: VALUE FOR MONEY Disadvantages: NONE THAT I CAN THINK OF
I have used persil for a good many years as I find it cleans the clothes really well, removing stains and leaving a really fresh smell into the bargain. I think more people use persil than any other powder, I have tried others and sometimes still do, but still I come back to persil. You can buy it as a liquid, powder, and tablets. You can also buy persil purely for hand washing.
I did stop using it a few years ago, as it was biological, something ... ...to come out in rashes, and were itching like mad. However, once the non bio came out I started to use it again, as non of the others seemed to clean as well as this.
THE PACKAGING.
*************
The box is mainly blue, with white at the top of the box, and in the centre is a picture of a little girl and a baby. In big red letters it says persil, and in smaller letters underneath it says the original non bio.
There is a round seal with a picture ...

Advantages: The smell. Clothes stay fresh for longer Disadvantages: None
Persil non-biological washing powder with Aloe Vera is their lastest product on the market. The main reason why I bought this really was because it was £1 off the marked price. So, instead of paying £2.89, I paid £1.89 for a 1.15kg box. Not bad, 'eh? It says you can get up to 15 washes out of it, and it is dermatologically tested.
On the side of the box it tells you what's in the box. It says it contains added Aloe Vera (real Aloe Vera extract) ... ...also read on the back of the box about Aloe Vera - where it is used, by whom and what for etc. It is reputed that it was even Cleopatra's beauty secret! Well, it could have been!
The packet itself is quite a refreshing one. The box is white, with a green aloe vera drop going into a green pool of water.
Now, onto the wash itself. On the other side of the box is how much to use on your light/normal/heavy soiling washes, and the soft/medium/hard water ...

It comes in a range of packs from one person who doesn't change their clothes often enough, to huge family with obsessive habits size. It is regularly on three for two promotions at big supermarkets and is it keeps for ages it is well worth stocking up, just be sure to keep it in a dry spot. Persil is exactly what you need to get blood, ...

Advantages: pretty good Disadvantages: the non biological causes fading
...going with this op shows Persil non-biological, but the heading seems to be for Persil powder generically, so here we go. Persil do quite a range of washing pwoders, and I've sampled a good few of them.
Biological - this is the one I started with, and I use it extensively for coloured washes. I have no complaints at all, it's easy to use, you can buy it in large boxes, the instructions are clear and concise. It does not appear to cause any significant ... ...wool... bringing me to
Persil silk and wool (I think that's what it's called, the packaging is ambiguous). This is a powder specifically designed for washing delicates. It's very good, no gradual eating away at your woolies, and a lovely soft feel to garments washed in it. I use it when have jumpers to wash, but often put a lot of other garments in as well, and I love what it does to the towels, they come out all soft and snuggly! Works well at ...

...Why the change to Persil non-bio? My son has sensitive skin. After extensive searches and testing of other powders, I found Persil non-bio.

'Persil the original Non-Biological does not contain enzymes. Many people have found Persil Non-Biological formulations particularly suitable for their skin. The box I use is 1.15kg and at a cost of between 1.99 and 2.49 depending on where I buy it.
I get around 12 washes out of this little box, which isn't bad considering my little brood.
I was really impressed by it's cleaning abilities, I always use the 40 degree wash. It cleaned all the stains on the clothes, including grass stains, blood (my other son ...

Advantages: very effective for removing stains at low temperatures, price and doesn't sting your skin Disadvantages: none I can think of
My earliest memories of a bio tex product was of my big blue school knickers being soaked in a bowl due to occasional leakages during sports at school, in the days before I wanted to wear tampons.
We had an old orange bowl that mum kept handy and either of us would fill with cold water and soak the affected garments in overnight. Next day, the stains were gone and they could be washed in the washing machine as normal.
In those days, you didn't have the kind of sprays and soaps and stain removers that we have now. In time, bio tex became a bit of a forgotton laundry aid and I think that vanish products took over from it.
Now I have a 4 year old, and inevitably, you end up with all sorts of stains on their washing - paint from school, grass, food, ink, felt tip pen etc. For the majority of the time I find that persilwashing ...
Advantages: Clean washing Disadvantages: not enough of it
Gone are the days of messy slushy powders, come the days of the tablets that go directly in the wash. I have tried other tablets and I like these ones the best. Specialising in colours (which do include whites), I always wash with cold water and the tablets work just as good. The clothes smell lovely afterwards, and it is true ? my colours have not faded! The ?colourhold? system does really work. The tablets are much cleaner tan ordinary washingpowders and the best thing about the Persil tablets is that nothing gets wasted! ...
