First off let me just say I love visiting Pets at Home stores but then again i love visiting all pet shops and having a look round at all the treats/toys/animals. The stores are always well lit and organised (much like a supermarket) and stock a wide range of supplies making it a one stop shop for pet products. The staff are generally friendly and try to help when asked. However as much as I describe it as a 'supermarket' I'd also easily describe it as an 'animal supermarket' because in my view there is a large selection of animals available fish/hamsters/guinea pigs etc at reasonable prices (sometimes with buy 2 for £10 offers etc) much like supermarket shopping. And unfortunately I think it's a case of quantity over quality and have had quite a few experiences in the past of sick/dying animals I've bought from there including a hamster with wet tail and numerous fish which within a week of buying have either died or infected my whole tank and then died taking all my existing fish with them. Saying that the staff are always willing to replace/refund so as to cause a minimal of fuss but that's not the point the point is the animals they're selling should be healthy to begin with and maybe if they didn't buy them in bulk and concentrated instead on fewer, healthier stock it might result in improvement all round, It's only my opinion and I have had good cases aswell with perfectly healthy animals purchased from there that have lived long and happy lives but I do feel I had to mention that if buying animals from there take in to account their health as it seems to me to be survival of the fittest. So hopefully you'll pick a good one. I feel I've been overly negative now about what is in fact a lovely place to visit and shop and provides well priced pet supplies with great special offers. Their 'Boutique range' in particular provided some great items for pampering your pets and I'll definitely continue to shop there but would think twice about buying livestock from them again.
