My 206 is a 1.1 Look on a 2001 Y plate. I bought it in Jan 06 as a runabout to get me to and from work, and it's been a star!
It has the cute 3 door good looks, with body coloured door mirrors and handles, and with features such as power steering and air conditioning, what more does a girl need? Seriously, I'm a petrolhead at heart and I think it's great. It only costs £55 for 6 months road tax, and even with the cold weather I'm averaging at least 40mpg so I only use a tank of petrol a month. It's also cheap on insurance, but enough about the money side.
The handling is sharp, the brakes (even without ABS) are very prompt to act, and pull you up without delay. All round visibility is great, and with the "wheel in each corner" design you can place the car effectively on the road at all times, and parking is a doddle with a tight turning circle.
Inside the cabin the layout is very practical, with all the dials and levers easy to get your hands on. I especially like the fact that 30mph is marked on the speedo. It's not always the case with other models, so if you do a lot of town driving, this is quite a benefit. For those with electric windows though, be advised that the switches for these are down by the handbrake - a surprise at first, but OK once you're used to it.
The cabin itself if very spacious considering the smallish exterior measurements. I'm 5 foot 6, my Dad is 6 foot, and I can easily get plenty of bits and pieces in with us too, with room to spare! With regard to the three door version, you will find it has easy access seats to help you get into the back. Whilst I've never tried a baby seat in it, I can honestly say I don't think you would have any difficulty, although you may wish to select the 5 door if there's one around at the time you're buying. But the boot is more than big enough to take our weekly shop of 8 or so bags, and I've had things like curtain poles and larger items in it, which can't be bad for a small hatchback.
The engine is the 1124 which Peugeot and Citroen have had in their cars since the year dot, and they remain as strong as ever. It starts first time every time, and runs so smoothly and quietly you don't have to turn your radio up loud to disguise the noise.
Mine has only done 32500 miles since new, and has been regularly serviced, which is of course something to look out for when buying one. My mechanic boyfriend replaced the brake pads (the first change it's needed) and changed the oil and it passed it's MOT with flying colours last month, so it will go on giving me great value for money for some time to come yet I hope.
My parents were very impressed with mine and bought a 1.4 on a 55 plate, which is also running fabulously. I will definitely buy another one when the time comes to change mine.
