I bought my car in March 2003 after waiting 6 weeks for it to be delievered, boy was the wait worth it. I ordered my car with leather interior, air con and sun roof, it looks smart, and it is the thinking man's GTI. So far I've completed 2000 miles in mine. I find the seats very comfortable and secure - they do hold you in when you are taking corners at speed.
The main reason why I bought a 206 D Turbo was becasue of the fuel economy - I drive 90 miles everyday and I needed an econmical car after my 307 started a drink problem like Oliver Reed. I average about 45MPG when driving to and from work, strangley enough, fuel economey in city driving improves this figure to around 50MPG. The only giveaway that the car is a diesel is when it is idiling - not in terms of sheer noise, but the way the gear lever slightly vibrates, but once moving you REALLY would not know it is powered by diesel. It's got plenty of mid range urge to scare many drivers and is fast - a very fast car. It's smooth and it looks the part with standard alloy wheels and the sports front wings and front/rear bumpers. I also ordered in Black and with the 'Lexus' style rear lights - it really does stand out in a crowd. The car itself, is reliable, looks nice, has plenty of room, has a quick heater, the controls are easy to use, and the instruments re al logically laid out.
If you think diesels are slow, try this one, not only is it faster then my 307 1600cc Raiper but ultra fuel efficent and cheaper car insurance (Group 5 for the D Turbo).
I'd buy it, because it has ABS as standard, Air Con as standard and sheer driving pleasure as standard as well - this car clings to the road. The car is good value for money consdering all the options you get as standard spec.
The sports suspension is not overtly firm, but it hadles better then the 307 3dr Raiper I had before, it's just as comfortable and is sharper to drive. You also get a standard car alarm and a CD player fitted as standard, throw away those tapes. This car really is a thinking mans GTI, it also is environment friendly, as it consumes less fossil fuels and emits less harmful gases into the atmosphere. I would say buy one. I certainly have not had any problems at all. To sum it all up:
Cheap insurance - Group 5 Cheap Road tax - £110 per year Great fuel economy Fab road holding, 4 star euro NCAP rating Less harmful to the environment Great accelaration Great in gear performance Easy to park and to wash! I t has electric front windows, electric mirrors (heated as well) power streering, remote central locking, CD player, Air Con or Sunroof (I had to have both) ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution and emergencey brake assist. Auto headlighhts (they turn on in the rain and when darkness approaches), Auto wipers which turn on when it starts to rain and an alarm system.
Buy one!

My parents ran pug diesels when I was younger and had no problems with them at all, my dads 405 did about 300k miles without any complaints! good op, drew

My Mercedes is a 2.2 diesel turbo, I too was surprised when I drove a 206 HDI as a courtesy car - the 206 HDI felt a little more nimble than my Mercedes C-class. I might buy one for my boy friend. Good review, how is the car now? how many miles have you clocked on it?
Advantages: convenient size, good fuel consumption, good design and features Disadvantages: a few niggly warranty issues and problems with peugeot main dealers over such claims
