She’s a V reg Peugeot 306 1.4 in Ocean Blue, so even the colour was one that we liked.
It was May 2000 when we first saw the car and the date of registration was the previous December which is why there was about £2,000 knocked off the asking price, as the new registration letter was about to become available.
Even better was the fact that she only had nine miles on the clock! And we got a discount card to ... ...same dealer.
We have never regretted buying this car for an instant. Dave loves to drive it, I am happy and comfortable as the passenger (and map-reader), there’s plenty of room for mom and dad in the back and there’s plenty of luggage space too. If we need to move something bigger than usual we can split the back seat one third or two thirds or lie it completely flat and there’s a LOT of room in the hatch back then! ... more
Just so that you know before you begin to read this opinion, I am about to tell you all about our car but don’t expect any technical specifications because all that side is completely lost on me! I will just be telling you what she is like from a traveller’s point of view! I don’t actually drive.
Our first car was a second hand Nissan Bluebird. She had been well looked after and suited us well for a while. Her only real problem was her insatiable thirst – she drank leaded petrol by the tankful!
So, regretfully we decided that we had to part with her and we began looking at options for buying another car.
We visited all the local dealers to get information on second hand cars that were about 12 months to two years old as we thought that was where the best bargain would come.
We also made a list of all the things that we would like the new car to have such as air bags, 5 doors etc., and we split these into two categories – those we MUST have and those we’d rather like.
We decided that our top price would have to be around the £10,000 mark. We’d saved a fair bit and could afford a small car loan as well.
On our visits to various car showrooms we saw quite a variety of cars that were nearly right for us and we had some laughs along the way. We went to our local car supermarket and it is one of those places where the salesmen hunt in packs and pounce on you as soon as you get out of your car.

Anyway we looked at all the second hand cars and some of the new ones at various places and eventually decided to take a trip to Regal Motors at Bilston from where we had been hiring Peugeots before we had the Nissan.
And there she was ……………
It was as though someone had put the car we wanted there at a price we could afford, just to wait for us to find her. God works in mysterious ways.
She had 5 doors which was THE main requirement as far as we were concerned as we have elderly parents who are not now agile enough to clamber over a folded front seat to get into the back of a car. Come to think of it – I struggle these days!
She had ABS (Antilock Brake System) which I had seen demonstrated on the television a few weeks before and I was amazed at the difference it made in the ability to control the car. Dave has really noticed the benefits, particularly when driving along winding roads. The handling on the corners is much more accurate and as a result safer.
There are twin air bags again an excellent safety feature, but one I hope never gets used.
She has electric windows and sunroof but no air conditioning, which is what we wanted as the air conditioning tends to use up a lot of fuel and we wanted the new car to be as economical a possible.
An immobiliser is fitted as standard, so we didn't need added security.
In fact the only thing on either of our two lists of requirements that she didn’t have was a CD player and we thought we could manage without one of those! We can always have one fitted at a later date if we want to anyway.

Add all this to the fact that she only uses about half as much petrol as the old one and she uses unleaded too (the old one needed LRP) and we’re well pleased!
Touch wood we have ahd no problems with her so far. She has had two main services and sailed through both with very little to be done, and the servie at the garage where she was purchased is excellent.
Advantages: Cheap, Economy, Reliable (ish), Pinninfarina Design, Space, Disadvantages: Expensive to repair, Awful window winding up mechanism, Low quality engine seal
...in red and comes with Peugeot alloy wheels. The standard car is a beauty and this no coincidence as it was designed by Italian car design house Pininfarina, yup you guessed it the people that design Ferraris. The car lines are sharp and sexy and it looks good still even though it was launched more than a decade ago.
The car is amazingly roomy inside and in common with most French cars is a very comfortable car. The interiors are of a good quality ... ...every 6 months though a Peugeot engines tend to misfire if not done.
Never ever underestimate the coolant level as it can turn into a heat casket nightmare. This won't be cheap to repair even though it costs £30 for the part is £200 for labour as it is a pain to get to it, courtesy of good but awkward mechanics that French and Japanese cars enjoy. Not much room for DIY either.
The windscreen wash tank tend to clog up a bit so should be thoroughly ...

Advantages: Economical, Cheap Insurance, Cheap to buy 2nd hand Disadvantages: A Little dated now, but not much
I have had my Peugeot 306 for almost a year now, and have had absolutely no complaints, apart from the fact that the windscreen got chipped on the first day (Thank you Mr. Micra, wherever you may be), and it now has a crack across 1/3 the screen on the passenger side mind you, and also a nasty knock a month into driving it. (Courtesy of Mr. Anglian Water, thank you too!) So apart from a frantic and painful first month of new ownership I have had ... ...3rd hand! My Peugeot was one of the first 306’s to be made, so just missed out on the standard sunroof and electric windows, but I am not in the slightest bit bothered, as I got mine for a very reasonable price of £2100, with a mere 56,000 miles on the clock, a CD player thrown in for free, perfect service history, and a funky blue gear stick left from the previous owner! Not a problem as my favourite colour is blue!

I purchased my M reg Peugeot 306 petrol 1.4 XN 15 months ago after being attracted to it by it's good looks and rather "squat" appearance. Although not the most exciting looking car around, it definately has a certain something that suggests that underneath it all, there is a bit of a beast waiting to get out. And when i first drove it, it did not dissapoint. It clings to the road like nothing I have driven before (and believe me there have been ... ...handling is excellent. since owning it, i have driven it on about every road possible, from windy country lanes in icy conditions to the cramped roads of the city and it handles itself beautifully everytime. I have never once felt unsafe behind the wheel of the 306, thus i have been able to relax whilst driving and have a bit of fun with it. And a lot of fun it has been!!! Its nippy and copes with long journeys superbly. It happily cruises along ...

This incredibly popular Peugeot is now starting to show its age, particularly since the arrival of the 206. Dynamically excellent and keenly priced, the 306 is still a very sound buy, but it does need a replacement soon. And a little more interior space. The 306 suffers from dull, angular interiors and poor rear leg room.
On the plus side, build quality is decent and the boot is practical and spacious. The ride and handling are excellent, with accurate ...

I am a 21 year old student and this is my third car; a 1 litre, M-Reg VW Polo. Although I have of course only have a comparatively low experience of car ownership I can certainly guarantee that this little motor is a reliable little run-a-round. The car is currently up t0 103,000 miles and in true solid, German, VW style, is showing no sign of giving up any time soon.
The body work has remained in fine condition with little to no rust, the engine is ticking along nicely and the interior remains quite contemporary and in good condition. Even with low level engines, such as mine, the light weight of the vehicle ensures it is a nippy little car and compares favourably to 1.4Peugeot306s I have had in the past. I also have several friends who also own Polos and all of them seem to have nothing but praise for the car.

I had a car accident at the start of this year, quite literally i got home just after new years, and so when it came to get a car and start driving again, my insurance was sky high being 19 and having crashed. I had my eye on a peugeot3061.4 and so with a low insurance group and the car only being worth £1000 I was shocked to find most insurance companies quoting me over £2500 per year. It doesnt sound much for car insurance but the hard truth hits home when you work that out to be £6.84 per day. Ridiculous, I could pay for a personal chauffer for not much more.
Anyway I eventually stumbled upon Norwich Union who I thought were going to rip me off too, but surprisingly quoted me a very low (Comparitively) £1800 which I snapped up, and although even this proved too high a price for me with then having to cancel the insurance, Norwich ...

I used to have a peugeot3061.4 P reg mark 1 on about 120k miles. It was a great car, but bashed to bit falling apart around an engine that purred like a kitten. So when i wanted another reliable car I pursued the 306 again. I got my original P reg in 2002 for £1500 this time I was looking for an R reg Mark 2 at about 2 grand.
My friend informed me of a 2001 X reg mark 3 at £2500, i went to look expecting high mileage. It was a gorgeous Meridian SE model. Part leather bucket seats, in Moonstone colour, (Sky blue silver) front driver and passenger and side airbags, cd player, air con with climate control full electric pack including heated electric wing mirrors 1.6i engine 15" alloys front fog lights, remote central locking, front rain sensing wipers, highly polished exhaust, all as standard!!! It looked great and at only 33,000 miles ...
