I have owned a Peugeot 306 GLX Estate for 2 years now and I can honestly say that it is the best all round vehicle I have ever driven.
In my opinion not only does it look good but it performs well to. Although my car is the petrol version I still comfortably manage 38 mpg whilst retaining an extremely responsive 1.8 litre engine. The car comes with all the mod cons as standard including ABS, Airbags, Power Steering, Sun Roof, Electric windows and mirrors, digital mile and trip meter and automatic window wipers to name but a few. The car has an impressive amount of room in the boot, more than adequate for the luggage on a family camping holiday, and the seats are designed with comfort in mind.
All in all the Peugeot 306 1.8 GLX Estate is a practical family car which is still fun and safe to drive. I would recommend it to anyone.
Advantages: Cheap to insure, Quick, Sporty, Fun to drive, Good Handling Disadvantages: Expensive parts, Uses quite a lot of fuel
...The only negative things i can think of are that it uses quite a lot of petrol (compared to my old car - Ford Escort 1.6i), but i suppose thats expected since it's much quicker. And also spare parts can be quite expensive for peugeot (my mum has a 406). ...

Advantages: Cheap insurance, great handling and ride. Disadvantages: Some expensive parts, heats up quickly.
...I'm a bit of a Peugeot fan, I had a 205 Style for 4 years and my parents both own 306s (they do look a bit silly when all parked together - daddy car, mummy car & baby car!). I bought the 306 XS 1.8 (petrol) 1 year ago, S-reg, gold (!), second hand with 60,000 miles on the clock for just under £4000. *Looks*
I think it looks good, even in gold! Mine is an S reg so it has the newer 306 styling (a rounder nose and rear). It comes with alloy wheels. ... ...happy to let your friendly Peugeot mechanic do the tinkering (as I am!) then it's not a problem.
*Saftey*
The car comes with ABS and drivers airbag as standard. Word of warning - it's not suitable for mums. It's almost impossible to get a baby seat in the car, as the seat belts don't stretch enough and the only place you can fit one is in the passenger seat. Not ideal.
*Extras*
There's a nice amount of extras, power steering, air-con, front fogs, ...

Advantages: Great roadholding, handling. Cheap insurance. Disadvantages: Uninspiring performance
I have been a fan of Peugeots since I bought a humble 205 6 years ago and I'm now driving a lovely 306XS. The best part of this car and other 306s for that matter is the superb roadholding and handling of the car. However, for a sports car I think the performance from its multipoint injection engine is not quite up to scratch. Acceleration is below that of a Golf GTi but the sheer driveability makes up for this shortfall. Equipment is pretty good ... ...drivers airbag. Inside room is superb and the views are excellent with excellent rear view. However 306s are notorious for rattles and squeaks and the XS is no exception. Wind noise is a problem too.
The best point of the 306XS has to be the cheap insurance. No other GTi class car comes close to the 306XS insurance for value for money. At group 5 this is absolutely remarkable making the car perfect for those who wants a sports car without all the ...

Advantages: Low insurnace group, alot for your £$ Disadvantages: No longer on the NEW market
The 306 was, and still is, a great car, despite now being replaced by the 307. Indeed the 306 is far more aesthetically pleasing than the 307. Most 306 outlets, prior to the launch of the 307, threw in many added features for little added cost, thus making the car a gem for the 10K market. The 306 ended on a Y plate and it is quite possible to get one on today's market ind the region of £7,000K. The latter 306 models all came with powersteering as ... ...Meanwhile, the interior was boosted by a tidy and comfortable leather trim, and the added bonus of a CD player. Metallic paint comes at no extra cost whilst the standard 15" alloy wheels are pleasing on the eye. However, the best thing about the 306 is the insurnace grouping. Where you start going into group 10+ or cars such as the Volkswagen Golf, the 306 does not go higher than a group 6. This makes it an ideal car for younger drivers. We own 2 ...

motor is) and check that there isn't a swimming pool of fluid there. Don't even bother looking any further until you've checked these out because (much to my cost) I didn't. The roof is a well known failure point and the seller would be daft to point it out to you !! If the roof doesn't work perfectly - walk away !!
Peugeot use a proprietary fitting on the hoses, so you can't get them anywhere but Peugeot and they charge £1300 for a new set fitted !!
A brilliant site for more info and forums from owners is the Peugeot Cabriolet Owners Club www.pcoclub.org.
Right - moan over. Besides the roof problems I think it's a great looking car when roof down....not so great looking when it's up though. I've got the 1.8SE - Decent trim and excellent engine reliability. Not the quickest car on the road, but not the slowest either...CD stereo not ...
Advantages: Reliable, Comfortable, decent power Disadvantages: Suspension Slightly Hard
I have now owned 2 Peugeot Cars, a Peugeot 405, and now a Peugeot306 Sedan SR and can safely say that they are worth every penny.
The Peugeot306 SR is very similar to to 405 in many ways, mainly with the smooth handling and comfortable ride, but where the Peugeot306 SR really excells over the older 405 model is in the body styling, the old straight edged design has been smoothed over on the 306 sedan and comes with an adequate 1.8 Litre SRInjection engine, the interiour is pleasent and has all the usual Peugeot electrics, the front windows and sunroof are electric and it has a rear heated window to enable easy de-misting, the 306 SR comes with an immobiliser keypad, steering protection device and Alarm with remote central locking to keep theives at bay.
the car drives superbly and have often been complimented on the comfort ...

Advantages: Great handling, Cruise Control, 125BHP Disadvantages: Wheel spin with heavy acceleration.
So firstly this is my 2nd car, moving from 1.6 litre Peugeot306, and boy was I blown away by the vast improvement in switching cars!
The handling in the Astra ( SRi 1.8) is excellent, and takes coners with a breeze. From start to 60mph in 9 seconds. And is a surprisingly nippy car, Now for the boring stuff...
The gear shift is short and well positioned. The pedals are sited without any offset from the driving position. There is adequate clearance beside the clutch pedal to rest your foot. The pedal weight on the clutch is perfect although the resistance of the accelerator pedal is a little light. The instruments are clear and attractive, and have like a brushed aluminiuim thing around them which compliments other details on the dash and interior, which is rather spacious, than say the corsa, or other vauxhalls, exculding ...
