I bought my V-reg Pug 306 Meridian about 15 months ago. It was 3 months old at the time of buying, and although it's generally an all round good car, I would not go as far as giving it full marks. I have a habit of waffling, so I'll get to the point, the pro's and con's! :
Pro's -
Not a bad looking car - Although mine is a 5 door, it still looks nice, even though I haven't cleaned it for a while! It has a reasonable body kit, but not too sporty. Even though the 306 hasn't changed much over the years.
Power steering - A must, and it's not really loose like some cars like some Rover's I've been in!
Dual airbags - Better safety, and with the option to turn off the passenger side airbag for having a baby seat.
Half leather interior - Nice, and not as cold as full leather, when it's winter!
Brushed aluminium look dash and gearnob - Makes it stand apart from most other 306's.
Air con (in my model) - Nice on a hot summers day, when everyone else is roasting to death on a long journey, you'll be sure to step out the car and be glad to warm up a bit :-)
ABS - Excellent. One of the best ABS systems I've had to test out. Although I've only tested about 5 others!
Brakes - Okay, probably should be in the above option, but hey, I really must say that the brakes themselves in this car are brill. They definately stop you well!
Heated wingmirrors - Handy when it's frozen up!
Comfortable - The seats are great and have a lumber suport adjustment. The drivers seat can also be height adjusted and so can the steering wheel.
Stereo controls on the steering column - Need I say more! Handy!
Engine immobiliser - Handy, as there isn't much in the way of an alarm.
Cons (which I'm afraid, in my option, outway the pro's) -
Poor reliability - I've had problems with tyres, and the car has cut out 4 times when I've been going over 50 on a dual-carridgeway, loosing power steering and power assisted braking. Now that /isn't/ fun, I can tell you. In fact it's blimin dangerous. Not only that, but they have yet to fix it properly, which leads to my next con...

Their warranty means bugger-all. I'm telling you that now. The only thing that was ever covered by the warranty in the 7 times I've taken my car in, is the fuel pumps, which were replaced when the car cut out the first time. It wasn't that, because it cut out a further 3 time. So either 1. the pump has died again or 2. the pump never died and it's something else, or 3. the pump died but the didn't replace it. I've had problems with my tyres which also 'wasnt covered'...
Problem with tyres (or something else related) - I am on my fourth set of front tyres and only my second back set (it's a front wheel drive). I've done about 14,000 miles, and although this is a lot, I'm anoyed because I've discovered that the 306's have a /known/ flaw that tey wear tyres on the outside edge a lot quicker that the inside edge. 'ahh, that'll be the tracking or the wheel balancing' I hear you cry, but no. I know of 3 other people with the same problem, and although I can't get my dealership to admit there's a flaw, their dealers have. So be aware, you'll have nice tread on the centre of the tyre, but within a few months of normal driving the tyres will be illegal on the outside edge. <breaths>
Not very quick - I believe my car is getting slower, but that may be just me, but ever since I took the car in and had it looked at, the turdo (oops, turbo) has never been the same. This aside, the car, in my opinion is not as nippy as the older 1.9 turbo diesel. The 2.0 HDi version seams a little sluggish to me.
Poor turning circle - Picky, I know. But some people would expect a small front wheel drive like this to turn okay. But I don't think it does. I had an old VW golf before this, and it was comparable - even without power steering!
Skitso automatic windscreen wipers - Although they are handy, after they've been turned on for a while, they throw a wobbly and go into hypo-mode even when it's hardly raining!
Poor leather steering wheel - The coating on the wheel comes off within seconds. Now I know they wear quickly, but I could actually see the difference day-by-day!
Slow response power steering - Altough its a pro above, it's not all that responsive when compared to some.
For a diesel car, it's not too economical. Okay it is a 2 litre car I hear you say, but still it stuggles to do 400 miles to a tank - and its a big tank, able to take 50 quids worth.
Generally poor build quality - Plasticy. Bad steering wheel. Aluminium effect on gear knob is breaking off. Stitching on the seats coming out.
Mud flaps are anoying - Petty I know, but you drive this car for a day and you'll be ripping the blimin things off! They scrape when you go round every corner or go over the slightest bump!
Lockable wheel nuts are a pain - I had a flat tyre and needed to change it, but got stuck for 2 days until I could get someone to help me undo the wheelnuts using the loose key that they supply to do so.
Interior and exterior is the same as all other 306's! - Over the past 10 years, hardly anything has changed in the 306. The inside looks exactly the same, except for the fabrics used on the seats and the aluminium effect in my model.
Alarm - I don't think it has one. But don't quote me on that!
All in all, it isn't a bad car, and the problems I've had and have known others to have may be slightly isolated, but still they are still my problems, so it might be worth taking them into account when thinking of buying one. In my opinion it's a boring and dated car with no fancy added extras that you can't get from another make of car - more reliably. I bought the car as I needed something that was reliable and cheap to maintain. It's been neither to me so far. But feel free to let me know your opinions!
Advantages: Reliable, economical and with creature comforts Disadvantages: Lack of Storage
I thought of considering a Peugeot following the many years my mother and sister have had trouble free motoring - with the 307 and the 206.
So I chose a 205 – an old thing that cost a grand and got me to Wales and lasted over a year. But it wasn’t going to survive the daily slog to work or long trips to the South East. So what next? The 205 had kept me happy, so it seemed logical to stay loyal.
And so it was I ended up buying a 306 from a Peugeot ... ...is no longer produced by Peugeot but is the predecessor to the current 307 and can best be described as a small family car. It was available in various engine sizes (1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0 litres) and shapes (estate, cabriolet and hatchback). The Meridian is an edition of the car that added a few luxury touches.
MY 306 has a design that is pleasing to the eye (mine anyway) with attractive lines, alloy wheels and a metallic silver finish. THE ...

Advantages: Good specification, safe, manouvrable and stylish Disadvantages: Slightly chunky gear box
We did well on the deal for this car - sun roof, electric windows, ABS, twin airbags, stereo, electric mirrors, metalic paint all round, etc. Because it was the last of the V Regs it only had 6 miles on the clock when we got it! Ace!
I have driven Peugeots for a long time and I do like 306's. The thing is they are big enough without being too big - and they are not cramped either. I am fussy about seats (a lot of driving gives me an achy back) and ... ...best - no aching bits after a drive to Scotland!
The gear box is a bit chunky - but I don't mind that. It handles well, is very good on the old fuel consumption (unleaded) and is responsive in an emergency! I want to try the HDI model one day - I have heard they are even better fuel-wise.
But for now I am as happy as a rabbit with an extra large carrot :) ...

Advantages: Nice little car, perfect for use every now and then! Disadvantages: Unreliable & Poor Customer Service
We purchased a 306 Meridian a year or two ago just before a trip down to Cornwall for a week. The car was alright but we did experience a few problems with it such as not starting too well on a couple of occasions and being a little slow a times on the motorway, going from Birmingham to Cornwall is a long trip and the car seemed to take a little while to get us there but it did in the end. This review is mainly about the customer service but also ... ...had.
There was many features such as CD player, air conditioning and central locking. These were all great and we enjoyed them a lot. One of my favorites was the volume control for the radio being very close to the steering wheel. This means whoever is in control of the car can easily turn the radio up or down or tune into a different station without having to turn his eyes away from the road.
When we picked up the car we knew staff had been in ...

Advantages: Economical, small yet roomy. Disadvantages: No CD player!
...we visited Regal motors the Peugeot garage from where we used to hire cars.
The car we purchased was on the forecourt with all the extras we wanted and at a knockdown price because it was V reg even though it only had 9 miles on the clock!
We have never regretted it for an instant. It is roomy, comfortable, economical, nippy, and good looking too! All this and it has ABS and twin air bags
What a beauty. ...

Advantages: Reliable Disadvantages: As with most cars dealership repairs and servicing are pricey
...Having said that my local peugeot garage is excellent (more than I can say for Vauxhall) and the car has been regularly serviced. By this I mean a full service at least once a year. The only fault it has had ,that has been a niggle, rather than an annoyance, is the pin which prevents the drivers door swinging back has popped out twice.
The central locking has recently stopped working on the drivers door, but due to the age of the car I'm not surprised. ... ...still manages over 35 to the gallon (1.6 cc). Unfortunately due to the mileage and general wear and tear of the car will are looking to exchange it soon, but I would cheerfully replace it with another much newer model if they existed.
Other reviews have mention the tyres. I haven't experience that problem, but then I buy middle of the price tyres which might have some baring on it. The seats are still in excellent condition as is the exterior paintwork. ...

Advantages: Looks; Chassis; Reliability; Drivabilty Disadvantages: Can be a bit heavy on front tyres
I bought our 306 HDi for my wife. I wanted her to have a safe, reliable car, which is also easy for her to drive. I knew my wife liked the 306 (I used to own several as company cars) and the 306Meridian is the best of the range.
In the 2 years we've owned it, I have had the car regulary serviced. Apart from new tyre and brake pads all round, the only non service item the car has required is a radiator as the coolant level was dropping very slightly. It only cost for £100 to renew the part, so this hardly broke the bank
Equipment levels are good. Electric windows, remote central locking, automatic wipers, air con, c.d. player, alloy wheels, 1/2 leather seats - everything that is needed in a car. I've upgraded the ICE to included a 10 stack CD player, which sits nicely in the boot.
To drive the car is a delight - I don't Peugeot ...
Advantages: Petrol is the 'Perfect Car'. Disadvantages: Diesel sounds like a tractor.
Hello everybody.
My first ever car was a 1.9diesel Peugeot306. Now i have a 1.6 Meridian306.
I first fell in love with them when my next door neighbour bought a light blue 306. It looked brilliant in everyway and from every angle. I got my first 306 1.9Diesel when i was 17. It was a super first car, cheap insurance and tax wasn't too bad either. It had really comfy seats, Electric Windows, Electric Sunroof, 4 Speaker sound system. Remote Central Locking PAS, stereo remote by steering wheel, drivers airbag + many more features. It could sit at 100mph comfortably. The only bad thing i can think of about a diesel 306 is that it sounds like a tractor!
I had it for around 6 months before i smashed it up(all fault of my own). I hit a car at around 40mph. Thanks to my great car my passenger and I walked away with no injuries at all ...
