I had this car from new but did not buy it myself as it was a company car and rented from Peugeot. It was a 52 (October 2002) registration and I had it the full 3 years of the lease and I was the main driver with my partner driving it occasionally. This review is based on the fact that ... Eventually our company fleet manager kicked up and the garage took the car back for a couple of months and gave me a 406 which was wonderful! This was in the first 6 months.
Other things that went wrong included:
a new alternator
a really big and expensive job on the brakes (I can't ... ...I was afraid to drive it!)
the door locks had to be replaced - for a time the back doors would not open
the light on the instrument panel went
the glove compartment lock broke and it wouldn't keep shut - the garage told me it happened all the time!
also I found the tyres needed replacing at undeer 20,000 - this of course may be down to me but I have never had this problem before in many years of driving different cars more
I had this car from new but did not buy it myself as it was a company car and rented from Peugeot. It was a 52 (October 2002) registration and I had it the full 3 years of the lease and I was the main driver with my partner driving it occasionally. This review is based on the fact that I did 20,000 plus miles a year and quite a bit of motorway driving.
The car was:
5 door hatchback 90bhp 1997cc 4 cylinders 8 valves Insurance group 6 Road tax band C Manual transmission
I'll start with the good bits about it. ! I loved it's looks and colour - aegean blue. It was roomy and comfortable and the performance was superb as far as I'm concerned. It's supposed to do 111mph but I doubt it would but it would happily go along at 90mph - which, of course, I never tried! Very few similar spec cars used to pass it on the motorway! The handbook said it would do 54 mpg and I can believe this.
I was initially worried about having the 90bhp father than the bigger one - 110 (I think) but I was happy with the performance. A colleague who had the bigger one found his was heavy on fuel.
I found it quite spacious in the back when the seats were down and I also found it good in icy conditions. I thought it held the road really well, better than other cars I had driven.
Now for the downsides ... there were probably more than I can remember here and these were mainly in the first twelve months I had the car:
The worst thing was the electricals - the lights and indicators in particular. They were an absolute nightmare - if I used the indicators I would flash my lights too very often and at its worst the lights and/or indicators would come on without anyone touching them. I can't remember how many times the unit was replaced. The Peugeot dealer admitted there was a problem and said Peugeot were in dispute with the component manufacturers. Eventually our company fleet manager kicked up and the garage took the car back for a couple of months and gave me a 406 which was wonderful! This was in the first 6 months.

a new alternator a really big and expensive job on the brakes (I can't remember what the problem was but until it was fixed I was afraid to drive it!) the door locks had to be replaced - for a time the back doors would not open the light on the instrument panel went the glove compartment lock broke and it wouldn't keep shut - the garage told me it happened all the time! also I found the tyres needed replacing at undeer 20,000 - this of course may be down to me but I have never had this problem before in many years of driving different cars
Despite all this I still liked the car's performance and opted for a new 307 rather than a 206 when the lease was up (these were the 2 I had to chose between). However if I had bought the car myself I would not have been happy with the number of problems and recalls. I was lucky that if there was a problem I was just given another car until it was fixed, I had no bills to pay and a fleet manager to fight my battles. I don't know whether this was just a rogue car or not but I do know that the electrics on the column were a problem in the first chround of 307s. When we bought a second hand car just before Christmas there was a 307 in with the same problems and I shared my experiences with the garage. I wouldn't like to suggest anyone does not buy one because I may have been unlucky but my experiences make me think it would be worth really checking on the lights/indicators. If you are buying an older one someone may well have had all this sorted and you will be pleased with the car! Just to finish - my new shape 307 (55/Nov 2005) has been fine!
...@ 72k miles with full peugeot history (no unusual problems & another bonus). all the usual features concerned with the 307, plus cruise control, 5 CD changer, A/C, Full electric pack.
I dont believe in extras such as auto lights, wipers as they are just plain lazy and make you a less observant driver, also i believe they weren't available on my model/year.
I purchased this from a used car salesman back in 2004 for, much to my joy, less than book ... ...ANY car!) by my local Peugeot dealer. Spot on for £180. no extras there then.I have had a new set of tyres (Pirelli P6000) on all corners @ 85k.
New ball joint @ 89k. New driveshaft @ 94k. plus 3 services (1 full, 2 intermediate).
I have even had 2 accidents since owning. a small shunt (10mph) from behind, causing no damage besides a crack around the screw in the numberplate! . The second was a more serious collision, being sided by a large coach ...

...at around 28 000 miles. Peugeot replaced the whole clutch kit under warrantee. Another Peugeot dealer told me that the clutch is guaranteed for 5 years or 100 000 miles. So, if your clutch needs replacing, do not be shy to take it back to Peugeot if it is still under the warrantee. My driver side wing mirror was replaced under warrantee because the heater did not work. The rear left hand side brake light seems to be replaced more often than the right ... ...to it in that if Peugeot does not find anything wrong, they will charge you for the inspection.
The car handles and drives very well. On motorways, it is a dream since changing gears happens less often due to the high torque from the engine. Two years ago when there was heavy snowfalls and ice on the roads, the Traction control and other gizmos (ESP) linked to it assisted me in getting home without killing myself. Really worth the money to have ...

Advantages: Safety, frugal, sporty looking Disadvantages: Can feel heavy, long A pillars, annoying interior noises
I bought an 03 Peugeot 307 S in Aegean Blue for £13,600 brand new, it had the 2.0 HDi 90 engine. What went wrong:
On the first day my indicator stalk wouldn't reset to its normal position. I phoned the next day to book it in and then when I went up there on the Wednesday they hadn't even ordered the part, it was sorted the next week. Then after only five days the alternator had to be replaced, which was done overnight, so luckily was only without ... ...has adequate performance and is very comfortable to drive. Being a diesel it has its sluggish moments but then the turbo kicks in at about 1500rpm and it has a nice pull off. Compared to my last car (a 1.2 Corsa) it is quick but not as quick off the mark, this is probably oweing to its much more noticable weight making the car feel heavy to drive. But overall when the car is on the move it is comfortable to drive and a pleasure to be in. It is no ...

Advantages: Nice and quiet. Smooth. Great gearchange action. Disadvantages: Over sensitive brakes.
I get criticised a lot for not giving specs about the products I review. If you want specs, go read up on the car in one of the many magazines, or even the manufacturers web site. This is about what it is like to actually drive the 307, over an extended period, not about the specs.
That said, my first initial reaction when starting the engine was to ask the bloke that delivered it if was _really_ a diesel engine. It is that quiet.
Taking it out ... ...of dual carriageway that leads to my first traffic jam, I usually get a good idea of what the urban driving experience is going to hold.
Acceleration is smooth, the engine remains quiet, and before you know it, you're off down the road at 70 miles per hour without actually realising it.
This is because the 307 is large enough that the sensation of speed is much reduced. I felt almost as high off the road as I had done in the Zafira, but not as ...

...of watchdog will know that Peugeot are on every couple of months. Most recently it has been the 206 (engine cutting out) but the 406 and the 307 are regular guests.
The fault on the 307 is something to do with the ignition not disengaging the starter motor. The motor keeps on going. The thing is, you don't know this - you can't hear it. The first time this problem manifested itself was 4 months after we bought the car; the engine cut out whilst ... ...fault and after 6 months, Peugeot agreed to pay the insurers and so our no-claims is protected but we were without a car for months whilst waiting for a resolution and Peugeot customer services never once apologised or said that this had happened before. As it is we are about £1500 out of pocket since that is the depreciation that the insurers have calculated for 7 months on a 2 yr old car!
In summary, it's a great car and statistically you are ...

, turned off the ignition and when I turned the key back on again, the message had been erased to my delight. I started to get back up to 50mph to rejoin the main carriageway when it came on again, The next day I took it back, they said that it was going to cost ME £350 to clean rear brakes, if fault still present, I could double that to £800 for new sensors. They said that they HAD replaced a part after all, they fitted a wiring loom which made the rear sensors more sensative. When I went onto a Peugeot307 forum, there were so many horror stories of people with the same problem and they`d had the cleaning and sensor replacement done, only to find that the fault still existed. I decided to contact Peugeot directly and they said that there was nothing that they could do because the dealer had done the recall correctly. I didn`t have it fixed, I ...
Advantages: Lovely interior & responsive engine with good economy Disadvantages: Boot a little small.
I have just test driven the 5 door version of this car (the Rapier model).
I want to have a diesel car and I have test driven this car as well as the Citroen Xsara (although the Xsara was 90 bhp as opposed to 110 bhp in the Peugeot.)
The Citroen Xsara is currently on offer (along with the Saxo and Picasso) suggesting a new model in the near future as the C3, C5 & C8 have arrived or are imminent for delvery to a showroom near you. The diesel Xsara (90 bhp) was a good ride and comfy - but the Peugeot307 110bhp was a dream in comparison.
The exterior is perfectly adequate - no qualms there.
The interior is beyond belief. The driving position is very variable and should suit all - I found it perfect for making my comfortable zone. (Not easy when some cars aggrevate my hip condition.) I loved the lay out in the dash ...
Advantages: Great drive, flexibilty of 5-7 seats, economical to run and reliable. Disadvantages: You don't get offered a 7-seater by insurance companies if your in for accident repairs.
I have a 307SW hdi 7-seater 2.0 diesel in aluminum ... not silver ... aluminum .. why they can't say silver I don't know ... but what a dream she is to drive. When they say it's the drive of your life they mean it, the engine is so quiet you will not realise you have switched it on, not only that at just a £110 to tax for the year its a bargin. There is loads of room leg and width wise in the front, i'm not the smallest of builds but I can comfortably fit in the drivers side without covering the gear-stick! The passengers seat comes with arm rest and there is again plenty of room to relax and enjoy the drive. The back seat is yet again adequately spaced with the option of moving individual seats back or forwards to suit, child seats fit comfortably and there are seatbelt positioners to aid comfort. The extra seating in the boot is ...
