Having read ALL of the reviews on the 307 HDi listed here, i think it's time to add my own!
Where do i start describing what it is to own & drive one of these fantastic motors!
I have a 2001 China Blue 307 2.0Hdi GLX (140bhp < more on this below). Purchased @ 72k miles with full peugeot history (no unusual problems & another bonus). all the usual features concerned with the 307, plus cruise control, 5 CD changer, A/C, Full electric pack.
I dont believe in extras such as auto lights, wipers as they are just plain lazy and make you a less observant driver, also i believe they weren't available on my model/year.
I purchased this from a used car salesman back in 2004 for, much to my joy, less than book price (paid 5.5k vs book @6.5k). Drove over 100miles from the forecourt with no problems whatsoever. Fuel economy was noted as being good too, 60MPG driving conservatively.
1 week later i had it fully serviced (something EVERYONE should do when buying ANY car!) by my local Peugeot dealer. Spot on for £180. no extras there then.I have had a new set of tyres (Pirelli P6000) on all corners @ 85k. New ball joint @ 89k. New driveshaft @ 94k. plus 3 services (1 full, 2 intermediate).
I have even had 2 accidents since owning. a small shunt (10mph) from behind, causing no damage besides a crack around the screw in the numberplate! . The second was a more serious collision, being sided by a large coach (with a sleepy driver @ the wheel). causing over £1500 worth of damage, including a front wing, both headlights, front bumper, both front alloys, plus a host of plastic parts (it even bent the crumplezone bar!).
I HAVE NEVER FELT SAFER IN A CAR. End of!. It was still drivable after the collision! (well it made it to the repair shop, again peugeot, which was 15miles with the bumper scraping on the floor!)
Couldn't be happier with the car, especially as its a diesel. I have test driven the likes of Astra's (with the exception of the 888), Audi's , VW's, Seat's and cant find anything to fault this car on compared with the others, be it price, features, comfort, safety, economy, you name it!
The interior is very nice & simple, yet remains stylish. double DIN stereo (radio & changer), wood effect dash, digi aircon, center console, trip computer, cruise control, driver/passenger armrests, airbags (2 driver, 2 passenger, 2 side). plenty of leg room, seats keep you held in and comfy on long trips (i have done 500miles in one day yet still felt good enough to play sports after!). Not had much time in the back, but from passengers i've had it's good enough!. Boot space is superb! (you can get a cabinet fridge unit in there and still get the parcel shelf on!).
Exterior and bodywork problems have been minimal. mostly dinks & chips. nothing a paint kit & some t-cut wont sort out.
Mechanically the car is sound as a pound. Even before the ECU remap (see below). Nice acceleration, smooth & floorless gear changes, nice driving position (the A pillar does limit visibility on occasion), very minimal engine noise even @ speed, manouvers very well, handles smoothly & gracefully. very very little to demeen this engine on apart from turbo lag! (anything under 1800rpm).
The afore mentioned turbo lag, had led me to spend £180 on an ECU remap (independent & undetectable, also totally legal). Enabling me to open up the superb Hdi engine's capabilities. Now, this is how it should have been as standard (i mean it was good standard but this is just WOW!). fuel economy of 70MPG @ legal motorway speeds (FYI 40MPG @110mph - rolling road). The power to weight ratio is spot on! ALL this without compromising any of the original standards.
The car now behaves like it's petrol equivalent (the XSI) all this from an original version! (i wont go into the >05 facelift version as i think it has no bearing on <05 models)
The drivers side carpet is about the only problem i have had, even then it was a bit of spray adhesive and problem sorted. lol.

I think this is the first review of the 307 which is good ! and i liked your writing style .. do you work for Peugeot ? Its good that you got a good one, many many more people did not . You MPG figures are also highly suspect 60MPG i don't think so ?

i like the 60mpg, if i get a car it might need to be diesel
Advantages: Great drive, flexibilty of 5-7 seats, economical to run and reliable. Disadvantages: You don't get offered a 7-seater by insurance companies if your in for accident repairs.
