    Advantages Advantages Big, reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages NO power, but then get Turbo diesel (which is fast!)

Just turned 17, Dad comes home and says, "Son, I bought you a car" Too my relief it wasn't a Vauxhall Nova. No it was an x-fleet car - a Peugeot 405 GLD in Midnight Blue. Now this car is far from fast. With it's odd 70bhp, it will reach 60 in a day. However if you buy one of these, you don't buy it for the performance. I got mine because it keeps my speed down. Engine The 1.9l fuel injected normally aspirated Diesel engine, is reasonably quiet and smooth. It takes a couple of seconds for the glow plugs to heat up, but I, in 3 years of having 200k+ on the clock have had it not start. Now at ... more

If you are looking for a used cheap car for your family and you have a restricted budget, then I can highly recommend a Peugeot 405. I have owned two of them now, a 1.6 GL and a 1.6 GR. Both of these are carb models, which is the only criticism that I could level at the car. The carbs on 1.6 engines are unreliable and require tuning every 30,000miles. I would suggest choosing a fuel-injected model. Both of my cars have been saloons and even with three kids I can still fit the entire luggage in the gargantuan boot. Economy and range are excellent thanks to a large 70-litre fuel tank. The ... more

I've recently bought my first Peugeot and must say I'm on the whole quite a happy bunny. My criteria was to buy the best 4door family car for under £2000. My search included Mondeos , Xantias and the like but the decent models came up at £2500 plus . Instead I decided to look at the 405 .The car I bought is revised GL model on a 'L' plate(94) all the electrics you will ever need(in perfct working order) a good sound system ,Very clean unmarked interior and exterior ,69000 miles with full service history ,it drives perfectly and best of all the package only cost me £1900. The only problem I have ... more

A Good mid sized family saloon. There are many advantages to having one of these cars. One they look modenr put up against todays saloons and will always look presentable for a long time. They don't have problems with rust and corrosion anywhere on the body. Spacious and comfortable with plent of room for 5 adults with leg space. The boot space is more than adequate definately enough for a set of golf clubs and more. Comes well equipped front electric windows, P.A.S, comfortable seats, Catalytic Converter, Later models come with airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners. Disadvantages of this car ... more

I bought my first Peugeot two years ago, it was 'J' reg when i bought it with 50,000 miles on the clock, Midnight Blue and inside was really clean..I was so proud of my 405..we went to Spain in it, and also the South Coast.. It started when I wanted it to, It was very economical around 55 to the gallon on a run ( Diesel Engine) and quiet.. I think that this has to be one of the best cars i ahve personally owned, if not a little older than what I would normally have gone for.. Sadly I art exchanged it for a Renault Laguna ( see my Renault Warranty posting) which was the worst thing I ever did ... more
