After an initial period of discomfort, until I managed to get the best driving position, I have found the car most comfortable. The dashboard is just right, with not too much information and easily readable dials.

This is the only failure since I have had the car - pretty good Eh?
Onlong journeys, at say 70 -75 mph, the car is returning 48 - 50 mpg. Drving back home late at night recently al ong a dual carriageway at 65 mph, the consumption showed 62 mpg - WOW! however, I wouldn't like to drive like that all the time.

The computer console at first is confusing, but after running through with the handbook, it is quite logical and easy to use. I would not (like one of the other reviewers) even try to use the basic settings whilst driving. The controls are all to hand, and, once familiar with the stalks and buttons, the controls are logical and easy to use.
The space in the car is excellent, much roomier than the Laguna. The driver and passengers feel protected in the cabin with the high sides.
The boot is OK, the slope at the top could cause some problems, but I have loaded a fridge in the back and had absolutely no trouble.
The drive is excellent, easy to drive, comfortable, arm rests in just the right place, (many years ago, I was once stopped by the police for resting my arm on the open window, perhaps it’s good that the window sill is high). I found that parking forwards is a bit of guesswork as the bonnet disappears immediately and there is no clue where the front bumper is! I found the steering and pedals very light at first in comparison with the Laguna, but now like the feeling.
With the driver and four passengers, the drive is good with more than enough acceleration to keep me happy. Passengers have praised the ride as being good to great.
The thing that passengers really like is the glass roof; it gives a feeling of spaciousness and gets rid of the feeling of being hemmed in in the back seats. My wife said that it was like being in a sports car without the wind.
The consumption at first was disappointing, but with a few long runs I am averaging about 40 mpg overall. It is quite depressing when the mpg figure plummets under hard acceleration.
Overall, I really like the car, it’s comfy, it can be quite fast, it is quiet at motorway speeds with no wind noise, the parking sensors are great, overall a great car for me!
One final downer, the glass roof has started to delaminate in one corner, so the car has to go back for a new one at the end of the week. The garage are doing in under warranty and are providing me with a courtesy car. So far they have been excellent providing the information and help that I have required. I hope that the report will still be positive after the new roof is fitted.
I shall add to this review as my experience with the car matures and grows.

The car has been with me for over two years, and I am still in love with it. I have just paid for the yearly service, (with a local not a Peugeot garage) and it cost me £200 which included a new ABS sensor.

I have used the car to its full extent, for removals, as a builders van, filling to the absolute limit with garden rubbish. We have managed to get four people, four sets of skis and luggage in the car. For golf, we can get 3 golf bags, 3 overnnight bags, 3 trollies and 3 people.
All this adds up to a real workhorse.
In the village, a woman knocked on the window and asked if I liked the car, as they were buying one. Instantly I siad that I loved it after the 2 1/2 years of ownership.
Advantages: None Disadvantages: to expensive for its capeabilities

when I last looked this was a free country so i am going to say what I think anyway, protocol, protocol protocol.
I have been loaned one of these as a hire car after driving citroens for the past few years, I expected peugeot to have advanced their suspension forward to a more comfortable ride.
the 407 SW is very noisey with road noise ... ...a supermini.
come on peugeot you can do better , I hate it and wouldn't waste the money on such rubbish yet again their will always be someone out there who absolutely loves it.
and somehow the will manage to find its good points if it has any.
finaly the arm rest between the front seats hampers your seat belt fitting and is to high, the handbrake lever is to short which makes it hard to apply.
the window sill on the drivers side is to high and ...

Advantages: GREAT FAMILY CAR, GREAT SPACE AND FUEL CONSUMPTION VERY GOOD. HANDLES WELL. Disadvantages: CAN BE A BIT SLOW ON THE UP TAKE.

IT ALSO REFLECTS THE HEAT FROM THE SUN,YOU CAN ALSO TURN A KNOB WHICH WILL AUTOMATICALY BRING A SCREEN OVER TO CLOSE THE SUNROOF OVER. Advantages: Stylish and Spacey Disadvantages: Rear Boot window a bit too small
What can I say about this car. My company has just bought it for me and I love it. The interior is marvellous-good leg and head room, the dashboard is elegant and the two front seats are high up in comparison to other peugeot's so you have a better view of the road and you can't view the bonnet-its wonderful. the height-adjustable seatbelts are great-so you don't have to have a band of tight material dragging the air out of yor lungs and sucking ... ...cubbieholes too, including trays either side of the front seats. However, the black trim shows up virtually all dust.
The rear parking sensors are great as it is difficult to see out of the small rear window and they give you the exact distance between other cars.
It takes a while to get to grips with the 6 gears in this car but the speed it can accelerate to is phenomenal, expecially for an estate.
The boot space in this car is great, you could ...

Advantages: looks different Disadvantages: limited rear vision, super soft paint & thin body panels
Wow!! What a great car! I have had it just over a year now & covered 40,000 miles. It is a company car which I had a choice what to pick. 3 cars were in the running, Volvo V50, Honda Accord & the 407SW. I liked (& still do) the Volvo but previous constant appalling service of my old V40 by my local Volvo dealers meant unfortunately the V50 was a non-runner. The Honda is a great car...but ugly!! Sorry, but it IS UGLY!! So, I was left with a great looking car made by Peugeot. Well, the car just says 'buy me!'...'RIDE ME!' I had to have it although I had my reservations about driving a Peugeot. Would it be unreliable? Would it handle like a boat? Would the dealers be worse than the Volvo dealers??
I took the plunge & ordered the 407SW SE with the luxury pack & 136HDI diesel. I added xenon lights & the JBL hifi as options ...
Advantages: Distinctive, good looks, great diesel engines Disadvantages: Less room in rear and boot than other similar sized cars
Most people will be familiar with the 407 by now, primarily due to the striking front end. That's right, the one that looks like a smiling mouth coming towards you in your rear mirror or on the other side of the road. The style is more conventional the further back you go but still retains a look which should remain up to date for a good few years.
This is the first Peugeot I have owned and so far I have no major complaints. I must say however that having had an Audi A6 prior to this, I was a little disappointed at the overall feel of the car initially. This is to be expected however as they are different classes of car.
You can find the full specification of the car on the Peugeot website so i'm not going to list it here and waste space. I will however describe my overview of the car as follows:-
Behind the wheel - you feel ...
I have owned my 56 reg 407 se sw for 6 months qand did 16,000 on top of the 16,00 it already had on. The car drives amazing to drive so comfy and the bluetooth hands free is good as well
at 70 mph i constantly get 50 mpg in 6th on cruise control
at 80mph you get 35-40mpg
at 90mph you get 30 mpg
Every time it rains heavy while driving the tailgate open warning comes on meaning you cannot open the boot or lock the car until whatever it is dries out usually 100 miles of dry driving sorts it dealer unable to sort., The brakes squeel and the cd player packed up and takes 2 months for dealer to order from france. I also get lots of intermittant electrical fault alarms.
Nice car shame about the electrics its my first and last peugeot car ...
