I started driving peugeots about 5 years ago when as a student at university I had to find a car that was cheap to buy and economical to run. My previous car, a VW polo, nearly as old as I was at the time (19) had just given up on life and I decided to buy a secondhand C reg Peugeot 205 diesel which was ideal to get me from Dorset to Bath, where I was at university, and back again. With plenty of room in the back to carry all my gear up to the halls of residence and plenty of room for bringing my dirty washing back home to my parents.
My 205 I named Bob and he did a very heafty milage (approximately 80,000 in 4.5 years) and survived about four minor run ins with other vehicles and the odd shunt or two that you make when you are 19 and a bit to enthusiastic about changing the tape in the stereo and not looking at the road.
In the four and a bit years that I had my 205 it never brokedown, never needed any major work done during a service and whenever it did go in for a service the mechanics were always very polite, professional and honest. They also always explained what work needed doing and why? being a young women I was very grateful of this as I had often heard stories of young women being ripped of by garages. The other thing I would say about the guys at the peugeot garage is that they always gave me advice on cheaper alternatives I could do if they thought the work was a bit unnecessary on a car that age.
Eventually my little 205 reached the 200,000 mark and was still purring along nicely but by this time I was a 24 year old graduate in my first job as a designer and I was yearning for something nice to spend my first real wages on and I knew that the 205, although a super car, would not last forever.
I visited my local peugeot dealer to see what they had on offer I was looking for a 106 or 306 about 7 or 8 years old but to my surprised I walked away having part exchanged my 205 for a 2 year old 306 at a very affordable price. The sales guys were fab and even negotiated an extra £350 part exchange on my old 205 so that I could afford the car I liked.
I've had the 306 for 6 months now and it's great. It has loads of brilliant features and drives and handles like a dream. I had a few problems at first (only to be expected though when you have a car for the first time) but the garage were brilliant in helping me. I drove in one day and complained about some damaged to the wing mirror that I hadn't noticed when I bought the car and they fitted a brand new one for me for free. On one occasion the sales guy even came to my place of work to get me to sign some forms to save me travelling backwards and forwards to the garage. Brilliant service from peugeot always!
Overall I'd say that the cars are great, the service is the best I've ever had but...I do find that no matter what I do the clutch pedal in every peugeot I've ever driven has had a slight squeak. Perhaps it's me I don't know but hey I just turn the radio up and drive!!!
Advantages: powerful yet economical; spacious multi purpose car; epitome of reliability. Disadvantages: I have driven Trabants that have easier gearboxes !
...had a two year old peugeot 106. Obviously our world was changing drastically and so were our transportation needs.
First we needed to identify our future needs. The biggy was economy. She would soon be out of a job and we would have an extra mouth to feed. So we needed 5 doors for easy access for kid and associated paraphernalia, reliability (no repair bills needed thank you!), No gadgets (more to get broken and go wrong} but a decent sized engine ... ...our old cars for a Peugeot 306 XL.
We've had this for three years now. The 1400 cc engine gives a wonderful compromise between power and economy. It has never let us down. A full annual service costs less than £ 100 at a local garage.
There is plenty of room for for five adults. The back seats fold down to give convert this little beauty into a pseudo-estate car. No electric pack means no surprise expensive repair bills when stuff goes wrong.

Advantages: I love the car (despite it breaking down frequently) Disadvantages: The dealerships are AWFUL!
...the big bad world of Peugeot dealerships. I have owned a number of cars of different makes, and currently drive a nice Peugeot 206 (updated - see below). Not sure why I am so attached to it - it breaks down frequently, despite being a new-ish car, and has cost me a lot in repiars. Anyway, I am writing about the AWFUL Peugeot dealerships, not Peugeot cars, which could be a whole separate review. I have tried several of them, each time getting fed ... ...think!) I have written to Peugeot to recall some of my experiences. They replied to say that I am in the minority for feeling like that. But having friends who also have Peugeots, there is a concensus that their service is awful beyone belief. I hate reviews based on single experiences of a company, and I hope that this review shows that I have had a consistently poor deal from these unfriendly cowboys! They really dont deserve your hard earned cash! ...

...the same garage - Curtis Peugeot in Coleraine, Co Londonderry.
My first car was a 106 Independence. I originally wanted a 206, with free insurance, but was told at that time I couldn't have the free insurance, due to be being an r driver, so I then decided that a 106 was my best bet. I hadn't really set out to get a 106 as such, it just happened. When I went down to discuss getting the car, I went down on the thurs evening, and everything was sorted ... ...it had expired! I have also been told service intervals that differ somewhat from another local Peugeot garage...
All in all though, I do like this garage. The staff are friendly, and there's a good selection of cars, although they only deal with Peugeots in that branch. ...

...read my op on my Peugeot 206 will know that there is no love lost between me and it. But one of my main reasons that I swear I will never own another one is due to my experiences at the dealerships!

In fact my last service was in January - just routine but I also mentioned that the car was prone to lurching intermittently and would they check it over. I spoke to the manager of the dealership, who also wasn't interested at all and told me to speak to their Head Office in Coventry. I have contacted them and they are "looking into it" - whatever that means.
I have now part exchanged my Peugeot for a Ford, as I have had enough of the problems and expense, but the thing that really riled me was the attitude of the staff at my local dealers.

A nice plain English op on a car.
I purchased my Peugeot 406Hdi rapier Saloon in December 2001. Only the second brand new car I had ever purchased. The first being a Peugeot 305 a few years ago.
That car had given me many trouble free miles so I thought I would stick with them. I suppose it?s a bit like the devil you know.
As a cab driver in London it had to be a diesel car. Economy is the Number one rule as saving money these days is so important.
There was a company in Scotland offering the best deal so I phoned, and arranged delivery.
A week later my shiny metallic China blue Peugeot 406 car arrived.
I like a largish car that?s comfortable. I like reliability and economy fuel consumption. Speed is not that important, I suppose functional is the best description.
The Peugeot 406 fitted my needs on description, but ...
Advantages: Great Looking, Agile, Fun. Disadvantages: Diesel, Horrible seating position!
frequently goes off when letting people in on your side, which can be annoying at times, especially at night or when trying to make a quiet exit!
*Interior and seating*
Peugeot are not known for their brilliant interiors, and as you would expect, this is not any different, the seating is pretty average until you go to use it. The way the seats are positioned is ridiculous, and getting the drivers seat in the correct position for you can be a chore at times, especially if you share the car like I do. The method of moving the seat forward to let people into the back seat of the 3 door version is very awkward nd fragile, as we have discovered many times previously, when it has broken or ceased to function correctly. Other than this it is pretty average inside for a car of its type, the back seats fold down quite well, ad you get the dashboard ...
Advantages: Looks, comfort, price Disadvantages: None in particular
~~**~~ Peugeot 206 S 1.1. 3DR~~**~~
First of all let me explain something - I've not got a clue about cars and the lingo that is unfortunately synonymous with them, however, I do feel I'm qualified enough to talk about comfort, driveabilityness and whether the free mats were worth arguing for.
In the beginning I had a mini (a real mini) that was my pride and joy. A hand-me-down from granny who unfortunately decided to purchase it unbelievably in diarrhoea colour hence it was known as the Poomobile and the whole of the county recognised her - it was great. Regrettably, her floor fell through and she went to the great scrapheap in the sky. After a period of mourning, I had a number of small cars after that - fiesta (fell apart), 106 (brother drove it into a tree), yaris (god I hated that car) and another mini that was the death ...
