I was absolutely thrilled when I received my 2 years free insurance with with purchase of my new Peugeot 106. However, now the time has come for me to buy my own insurance, the flaws in the system have begun to show.
The main problem (and this is something everyone should be aware of if taking free insurance) is that if you have a no claims bonus earned BEFORE taking free insurance, you may lose those years if you are not careful. I know that some other manufacturers are not guilty of this, but in the case of Peugeot, they didn't have a hand over between my old company and themselves. This means, at the end of your free insurance, you may find it very difficult to prove the number of no claims years you have in reality.
The second problem is that I have found Peugeot to be less than helpful and not particularly efficient or reliable. When I rang to explain the problems I was having, the person I spoke to said it wasn't their problem. Further, they have sent me two quotes for insurance, both of which were based on the wrong details, even though I corrected them after the first time.
Having said that, the insurance is free and obviously you should grab it. Just make sure you aren't so overwhelmed by their generosity that you don't ask lots of questions and make sure you'll be ok after the free insurance runs out.
