Advantages: Great picture and sound quality, comes with a stand Disadvantages: No widescreen for Euro 2004

My family recently purchased this Philips television from a branch of electronics store Comet. I thought I would review it because I feel I have a good knowledge about electronics and new technologies in general. I am also the one who was given the role of setting it up and tuning it in so I can give my opinions on that as well.
We have needed a new television for some while now, as our old one looks very odd the relatively modern house, in which now live. Our old television was and old black Goodmans tele that was around 8 years old. So we all jumped in the car and of we went to Comet. We thought an upgrade and with Euro 2004 fast approaching we had it in our minds to find a widescreen television.
We spent some time looking through the extensive range of products that Comet offer. We eventually settled on this Philips television. Were were impressed by how elegant it looked. It also comes with its own incorporated stand which you can see from the picture. The 'in-thing' at the moment are these televisions that are a silvery/grey colour. I think this tele looks very good on the back ground of our off-white walls.
We bagged this tele for £287, although I believe you can get it slightly cheaper elsewhere. As I have mentioned, in the disadvantages box, there will be no widescreen coverage for Euro 2004. This is down to the incompetent Portugese. Basically, their television broadcasting network hasn't been upgraded to show widescreen pictures. As a result, we will be greeted with two annoying bars, one on each side of the screen. As an avid football fan, i'm very disappointed as i'm sure others will be.
The television is fairly easy to operate, as Philips provide some very easy to follow, concise instructions. The menu's on the television are easy to follow and access with the control. You can change things like the sound, brightness and contrast, amongst others, to cater for your needs. We have had a good experience with Philips products as we have got both a DVD and VCR player by them. It is very much what I would a user friendly product, one that anybody can use and operate without any hassle. Much of the set-up is automatic so you only have to follow a few instructions and then you're away.
The picture quality on this model is very good. We made sure of thisby comparing it to others in Comet. Because the screen is fairly small by todays standards, it is able to produce a good picture. The quality isn't 'stretched' across the whole screen so the picture is very good.
SPECIFICATION
Size - the televison measures up at 45cm tall and 69cm across. It has a depth of 44cm. These measurements don't include the stand, which is around 40cm tall.
Screen - this television boasts a 24 inch screen, which is is very slightly curved. The various different settings allow you to change the picture quality as you wish.
Sound - as you would expect to find on most televisions, Nicam Stereo is the sound system. This in my view produces a good, realistic sound especially on films.
Other Features - you can programme a maximium of 100 channels which is fairly useful. It has a built-in child lock, so if your children get their hands on the remote, they can't interfere with any of the programming or settings. You can also set it turn off in a set period of time, with the Sleep function.
I would certainly recomend this product to anybody who needs a new television. However, do shop around because you will find it cheaper than at Comet. It offers the user/viewer pretty much everything that you would expect from a TV and much, much more. The Philips brand name certainly adds to the overall quality, with the assurance that you are getting a good product for your money.
Advantages: Nice picture, nice sound, easy to use, cheap Disadvantages: the screen could be flatter.
...to be the best deal, and i still think it is. I didn't excpect such a good TV for that price.
I definately recommend it as any philips equipment. I have several of them, and never had any problem with it
You are welcome,

As the model number suggests, this is a 24” widescreen television – something that there are not too many of on the market at the moment. It seems to be the fashion to get the largest TV that you can fit in to your sitting room.
Prior to buying this model I owned a much larger wide screen television and initially this unfairly blurred my judgement of this sets merits.
The first thing to note is that a 24” widescreen is NOT big; in fact the viewable ... ...Don’t buy this TV expecting to get the big movie screen experience – you’ll be very disappointed.
OK, so we’ve decided that this is a relatively small set – so what about its features?
Appearance: This set looks nice! Wrapped in the fashionable silver coloured plastic casing, this TV is far more subtle that the traditional black. This was actually one of my main reasons for its purchase as I was tired of the main focus of my sitting room being ...

Advantages: Inexpensive widescreen; ideal for small living rooms Disadvantages: basic feature set; not pure-flat; unavailable in black
Plasma/LCD screens are great. We'd all like to have one of them stuck on our wall, and in a perfect world, those of us with small living rooms could enjoy widescreen cinematic glory to the max.
In reality, most of us don't have two or three grand to spend on such an item, and if we care enough about aspect ratios to want a widescreen TV, but only have a couple of hundred quid, that means a 24-inch CRT model like this one. (I've seen these going ... ...manufacturers don't produce widescreen TVs smaller than 28" - so the 24" sector has become a niche market, and therefore models are often actually more expensive than their larger counterparts. But if keeping dimensions down to a minimum is important, and in a small living area it most certainly is, then this is exactly the sort of telly to go for.
Only available in silver (I prefer a black finish myself), but removable from it's rather nasty stand, ...

Philips is one of the world's biggest electronics companies and Europe's largest. It is a global leader in color television sets, lighting, electric shavers, color picture tubes for televisions and monitors, and one-chip TV products.Philips 24PW 6006C features a Black Line FX picture tube with highly pigmented phosphors that give a better contrast, especially in daylight viewing. A special circuitry has been incorporated into this receiver to enhance the darker portions of the picture for added realism and overall picture quality. The continuous zoom feature gives an ability to expand the picture from 4: 3 to 16: 9 in many steps so the user can select the best aspect ratio for the material being viewed. Thanks to the Incredible Surround sound you have the impression that the sound is coming from all around you.
