Now i spend a lot of time searching through reviews on the web when I am thinking of getting a new goody. Well my old 24 inch standard TV bit the dust it was a phillips was 16 + years old and had an excellent picture quality up to the moment it died. So I checked reviews for flatscreen widescreen TVs in the price range I was willing to pay. This model got excellent reviews. This is a good value TV. It was very easy to set up as it automatically located & stored the 5 main channels which meant that it was watchable very quickly. However, I had to move the "VCR" channel as it overlapped with channel 5. this was a little complicated as Philips store channels by frequency rather than channel number (although there is a list of the correct settings in the manual), it would be easier if they had stuck to using the channel number (21-68). This is by far the best television I’ve seen for the price range. The sharpness is unbelievable even when standing right up close to it. The blacks are black and the whites are white. When starting the television for the first time it searches for the channels straight away. The channels are in order unlike most other televisions which mix CH4 with BBC1. The program names program themselves making it quick and easy to start watching. BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 are found by it. This TV will tide you over untill the HD revolution really picks up with far supperior screens still on the horizon, I can't fault it! If you are used to CRT screens and can wait for the Screen technology to improve get this (i paid £125 at Comet - they will also pricematch there web price in store if you ask otherwise it will cost £150 22/06/06) The Tv has 2 scarts (1 supports S-VHS 1 RGB) there is also the usual video and audio (3 plugs) on the side of the TV. I foud that the best advantage of this is that the picture is clear and the colour contrast is exellent. it was also good value for money. It was easy to assemble although my partner did have trouble with it. once i took over it was easy (naturally) i also found the store where i purchased my good very helpful and they even offered to assemble the goods for me. The programing was exellent it was automtic unlike other tv's which you have to spend ages scanning for each channel. it also included surround sound, on screen manu and fast text. headphone socket and widescreen option. and the box ... more
