Well my old 24 inch standard TV bit the dust it was a phillips was 16 + years old and had an excellent picture quality up to the moment it died.
So I checked reviews for flatscreen widescreen TVs in the price range I was willing to pay.
This model got excellent reviews. So I went and checked it out in the ... ...£299 a year ago for mine which I considered a bargin especially taking into account the excellent stand that comes supplied with it worth £50 on its own.
The stand is solid very solid has frosted glass shelves for that touch of class but did take me an hour to put together. Its heavy which is good but make sure you place it where you want it as moving it with the TV on it is not an option.

This model got excellent reviews. So I went and checked it out in the flesh and liked its looks and brought it. I paid £299 a year ago for mine which I considered a bargin especially taking into account the excellent stand that comes supplied with it worth £50 on its own.

SETTING UP YOUR TV / INSTALLTION
Plug in your mains plug and your areial and other devices such as dvd player video etc. then switch on, on first instalation it automatically searches and sorts the stations into oerder 1 is BBC1,2 is BBC 2 etc.
PICTURE QUALITY.
is tremendous i am fussy about how my picture looks but have no problem with the image clarity on this set. Contrast is great black is black, colour tones are natural none of that too rich red. In the menu you have enough adjustments for tonal quality of the colours to suit most peoples desires. you can store your settings but you can only store one setting there are a choice of 4 presets using the remote control. natural , rich, multimedia and soft presets.
plenty of options on the widescreen formats 4:3 16:9 widescreen subtitles widescreen and superwide you can zoom on 4:3 and 16:9 to fill most of the screen and adjust the top and bottom of the widescreen position.
SOUND
not in the same league as the picture quality. have it too loud and the TV case buzzes. To my ears for such a TV the bass could be better. Treble is good as is midrange. You can adjust the level for treble and bass in the menu. Dolby virtual works very well and fools me at times I have to check to see if I have my surround sound home theater system on. And like the picture there are 3 presets music, theatre and voice and on non dolby transmissions you have spatial.
INPUTS
there are two scart sockets on the rear a minimum requirement these days. and on the side phono conectors for video and stereo audio L / R and a head phone jack.
THE TV STAND
this is real quality has two froted glass shelves and the rear pillar has holes to put cables and connecters through and keeps them tidy. TV sits perfectly on the stand and its solid and looks good.
REMOTE CONTROL
Has all the functions you would need to access all its features. you can show two teletext pages at the same time as well if you like.its sits well in your hand and feels of good quality.
CONCLUSION
Total quality great value and with so many LCD and Plasma screens on sale now these sets are a real bargin highly recommended. All my DVDs look brilliant on this set.
Advantages: Good picture quality Disadvantages: None
...was a little complicated as Philips store channels by frequency rather than channel number (although there is a list of the correct settings in the manual), it would be easier if they had stuck to using the channel number (21-68).
The picture is very sharp & clear. The colours are good.
Having two SCARTs means that it is possible to plug in a VCR & one other accessory without having to keep switching the leads around.
I like the way that it can ... ...adjust the picture size accordingly. For example, if I have BBC1 on the Freeview box it usually selects "widescreen" but as soon as I change to (say) TMF it changes to the correct zoom mode. Occasionally this is frustrating at it insists on Sky Sports News being in Zoom mode when you want to see the very bottom of the picture (and that is partially off the screen). The teletext is easy to operate. There is the option of storing your 4 favourite pages ...

This TV will tide you over untill the HD revolution really picks up with far supperior screens still on the horizon, I can't fault it!
If you are used to CRT screens and can wait for the Screen technology to improve get this (i paid £125 at Comet - they will also pricematch there web price in store if you ask otherwise it will cost £150 22/06/06)
The Tv has 2 scarts (1 supports S-VHS 1 RGB) there is also the usual video and audio (3 plugs) on the ... ...the TV (volume/channel control) The remote is a nice compact controller full of functions.
The Auto screen size works really well, which saves manually changing the screen aspect ratio with multiple button presses as on my old TV.
This is an analogue tuner TV, which means you can plug a far superior digital receiver in than most TV's come supplied with, without spending out on the built-in digital tuner (i recomend the Humax PVR-9200T dual tuner ...

I foud that the best advantage of this is that the picture is clear and the colour contrast is exellent. it was also good value for money.
It was easy to assemble although my partner did have trouble with it. once i took over it was easy (naturally) i also found the store where i purchased my good very helpful and they even offered to assemble the goods for me. The programing was exellent it was automtic unlike other tv's which you have to spend ... ...on screen manu and fast text. headphone socket and widescreen option. and the box came along with the correct scarts, stand, and the remote, which even came with spare batteries. i have found this tv to be very reliable and trusty. there are cover flaps that can be brought if you have children also. I also looked into the manufacterers and they are very trusty and if there is a problem with your tv they can quickly supply the parts needed. ...
