We bought a lower end Philips and although impressed we missed the Ambilight feature as our previous TV had this and once you have experianced it you will never want to be without it again.
This is a great TV and Philips have tried to make this set as future proof as they can as it is packed with the following features...
4 HDMI inputs, 2 scart inputs, A PC connection so you can use the tv as a Computer monitor and something that i have found useful is they have put a USB input on the side of the tv.
The USB input is great as you can copy digital pictures onto a USB memory stick and slot it into the TV which then auto detects and then you can create a slide show of all your fav pictures. Another thng it came in useful for was that i found out that Philips updated the software and fixed a few known issues when I looked at the software date on my TV it was april 2008 but the updated version was november 2008 so one click on the Philips website and i was able to copy this update onto my USB memory stick, slot it into the side of the TV and the TV then updated its software on its own, Again this is why i stated that Philips have made this TV quite future proof. Even if the software was updated again it will be so easy to install it.
Then there is the picture quality which i find stunning the TV has features such as Pixel Plus 3 hd and smooth motion processing which makes the picture quality amazing, Being an LCD it also handles very well when it comes to watching fast paced stuff such as Football and Fomula 1 racing etc. The TV also has a contrast ratio of 30,000 which makes the blacks and the whites really vibrant.
The TV is also "FULL HD READY" and capable of displaying resolutions of 1080p when looking at a new TV always choose a model that is capable of resolutions of 1080p as there are tv`s that are labled "HD READY" these TV`s are only capable of resolutions of 720p although they will do HD tv when it arrives they wont be able to display resolutions of 1080p so if you are considering getting a blurayplayer then go for the 1080p models as this is the resolution that bluray needs for its full potential.
the ambilight is really great and whenever people come round in the evening and see it makes tham amazed as to how good it looks. The ambilight is also fully user freindly and can be customised to what ever your preferences are, you can turn the brightness down and change colours the wife likes the pink and purple where i prefer the red or the blue again fully user freindly.
The sound quality is good with the Philips virtual dolby surround sound speakers and the set has 2 mini sub woofers on the back to bounce the bass signals off the wall and back into the room which further enchances the sound quality. Another good point of this TV is that you can set the sound to how you want with seperate ajustments for Bass, Mid Range and Treble rather than having to put up with "pre set" settings that some models have.
One thing I would advise on is if you go to a electrical superstore such as comet or currys never judge a tv on its picture quality as the showroom tv`s are supplied by 1 signal that then feeds quite a number of TV`s on display hense why they all display the same images at the same times this is not showing you the tv or any tv its full picture qualities. Ask the sales assistant to connect a Bluray player to the TV and ask them to play a bluray film although you may think why should i do this as i dont have bluray the main factor of this is that it will show you the tv`s true picture qualities rather than just seeing one signal thats piped through 20 tv`s at the same time.
I would certainly recomend this tv although some people may say its overpriced but i always feel you get what you pay for and you can clearly see thhats the case with this in terms of all round performance not just the ambilight. The picture quality is much more better than other lower priced philips models.
I would also consider taking out an extended warrenty as philips use good quality parts but if ever a problem occured these parts may be more expensive to replace that other makes of TV.
Being an LCD it also does not suffer from screen burn which was a common thing to watch out for with some plasma TVs.
A truley great all round TV with great picture quality, sound and all round performance...Go on give it a look.
