...Well after weeks of researching for a new tv, the worry of wether or not LCD or Plasma was a better choice. I decided to ask the advice of my friend whom is a tv engineer. he Told me to go for the plasma although there is nothing wrong with LCD he told me the bigger screens are better with Plasma. He told me for a good value for money TV which has lots of great features and superb picture and sound quality to go for this Phillips model. I cannot say much more that he was absolutely right it was a fantastic choice. The picture is breathtaking compared to my mums 42phillips with ambilight and pixel plus2 technology. and unlike some plsma/lcd tv's the sound is great. most of these tv's have a very tinny sound. A very good buy for those on a budget. Tv man did say that for a superior tv Panasonic is the way to go. But hey with £700...

...Every Philips product I have ever owned has been hassle. Either you can't get spares or lousy service. Even a phone... after three years they no longer made the rechargeable batteries... etc... etc. I have not bought anything by Philips for maybe 5 years now, which has worked out great. Then someone actually gave us a 42" plasma... should have said no thanks 'cos, it was no surprise when plasma just stopped. Has power indicator but just DEAD DEAD DEAD. Don't buy anything from Philips.... not a screen, a dvd, a cd, not even a battery. It will break! Search the net ref thes plasmas... you will find many many frustrated owners and stories of terrible customer support.
My selections below are based on its condition now... which is defunct!...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Poor Support Services
...I purchased a 42PF9967/10 Feb 2006 after 5 weeks it developed a fault it kept turning itself off March 2006 after trying to repair it then deciding that it was beyond economical repair ,Philips not the retailer offered me a replacement even after asking for a refund or TV unit from a different manufacturer (Philips No Way) I felt I was pressured into accepting the replacement a 42PF9631/10 in June 06.
New unit developed a fault in Oct 2006 (foam strip wedged between outer and plasma panel hanging down in centre of screen about 4") apparently this is a minor fault but still had to be picked up from my home in Ayrshire and sent to Philips only repair agent in the UK based in Manchester after many letters, phone calls (Philips charged @15p per min) to retailer, repairer and Philips I finally got it back 20th Dec 2006
They extended original...

The Philips 42PF9831 is one of the best Large screen LCD televisions available at this moment in time. Apart from being able to show off the superb full Ambilight Technology, it also benefits from the excellent philips technology Pixel Plus 3.
