Well, my old plasma ( well 10 months old ) I decided I wanted to change. I previously had a 42" plasma, but unfortunately I bought it at the time that HD (High Definition) was still 'new', and my old screen wasnt HD Capable/Compatible. As I now have Sky HD - I decided to have the HD in its full entirity, then I needed to upgrade the screen, to be able to display the HD pictures. I was browsing online for a HD Plasma, and had a budget of around £1,500. I then decided to check out Argos - as this is where I purchased my previous 42" plasma, which I have been happy with. As I was looking online ... more

1 Star Quick review of Philips 42PF5521D by Hot_Gossip 28/07/2007
I own a audio visual business and as such have a pretty good idea about technology etc. I have to say that Philips need to be lined up against the wall and shot for what they have done in describing this product (and others)! They state fully compatiable with personal computers as you would expect - WRONG - you can connect via the HDMI port using a DVI input but for those of you like me who have VGA it's a big NO NO. Philips customer services are probably the worst in the world we deal with every other major brand ... more

Advantages Advantages Pretty good picture, great connectivity, good sound

Disadvantages Disadvantages TV guide is rubbish!!

I've owned this telly for over a year now and in that time have had no problems at all with it. The picture quality is not the best that i have seen but it is still very good, it can be a bit glitchy at times. The sound quality is very good too. The in built freeview works great but the TV guide is not very good and could be better designed. The connectivity is brilliant, plenty of ports, HDMI, composite, component, two scart sockets are all present. It weighs just over seven stone so make sure you have a very sturdy television stand. This telly is rather dated now and i would definitely ... more

Well after weeks of researching for a new tv, the worry of wether or not LCD or Plasma was a better choice. I decided to ask the advice of my friend whom is a tv engineer. he Told me to go for the plasma although there is nothing wrong with LCD he told me the bigger screens are better with Plasma. He told me for a good value for money TV which has lots of great features and superb picture and sound quality to go for this Phillips model. I cannot say much more that he was absolutely right it was a fantastic choice. The picture is breathtaking compared to my mums 42 phillips with ambilight and ... more

Every Philips product I have ever owned has been hassle. Either you can't get spares or lousy service. Even a phone... after three years they no longer made the rechargeable batteries... etc... etc. I have not bought anything by Philips for maybe 5 years now, which has worked out great. Then someone actually gave us a 42" plasma... should have said no thanks 'cos, it was no surprise when plasma just stopped. Has power indicator but just DEAD DEAD DEAD. Don't buy anything from Philips.... not a screen, a dvd, a cd, not even a battery. It will break! Search the net ref thes plasmas... you will ... more
