We had a very unlucky week where the washing machine and tumble dryer broke and the TV blew up. Unsurprisingly it was the TV breaking that made my husband panic and before i knew it, we were at the shops looking at new televisions. When we were looking in the shop, the Phillips 50 PFP 5532 D 12 looked big, but in a huge store it didnt seem massive. When it was delivered to our home, it suddenly seemed to grow into a huge monster. Suddenly, our lounge looked tiny. I started to wonder why i had bothered putting out decorative vases, clocks and flowers when all you saw when you walked into the room was the TV. It bothered me a lot the first few days- i found myself wondering if they sold wooden TV cabinets that large or if it would blend in more if mounted to the wall. Strangely though, by the time a week had passed, it really did start to blend in.

Owning the Phillips 50 PFP 5532 D 12 is like going to the cinema every night. The picture is crisp with great colour. The surround sound is excellent. All you need is Sky Plus and you really have the perfect Tv experience.

DIGITAL TELEVISION

So what is digital television? Digital TV gives a greater choice of TV viewing, without the interference you often experience on analogue TV. There is a better selection of widescreen programming. Using the remote control, you can access lots of information like digital text- this is ten times better than the old teletext system. You can watch information about a programme while you are watching it. There is also the Electronic Programme Guide that lists digital programmes- this makes is unnecessary to but a TV Guide, which is great.
The TV will automatically be in digital mode when you turn it on for the first time.

PICTURE SETTINGS

You can adjust the following picture settings to suit yourself:

Brightness- this will change the picture brilliance
Colour-this can change the strength of the colour
Contrast- this will change the difference between light and dark tones
Sharpness- this changes the sharpness level to improve picture details.
Colour Temp.-alters the colour rendering
Store-stores adjustments

SOUND SETTINGS

You can change the tone, balance, delta volume, volume leveller and surround sound settings.

A PLASMA WARNING

If you leave the same image on the screen for a long time (eg a competition logo in the corner of the screen) it can cause a permanent after-image on the screen. However normal use of a plasma TV invloves pictures moving frequently, so it shouldnt cause a problem. We've had no problems with this so far-just something to be aware of.

OTHER DETAILS

The TV comes with a stand- it can also be mounted on a wall.Just make sure you choose a strong wall as it isnt light! It can take a while to set the TV up, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time. I was quite happy to leave this part up to my husband, with his dad helping.

PRICE

You should be able to get this for around £800- there are a lot of different deals about. Some include DVD players etc, so best to shop around.

MY VIEW

I really recommend this TV- it really is like going to the cinema every night. My children love watching DVDs on it. It really is a treat for all the family. My dad complained that it was too big at first, but now he loves watching cricket on it when he comes over!
