Rating from gbartlett87 4 Stars ()

Advantages Good picture quality, useful features, classy product

Disadvantages Restricted memory card size, Freezes up sometimes, Difficult navigation

Review summary
Good features, good screen let down by very poor reliability and difficult navigation. Dated now as not widescreen format and small picture size compared to latest models.

UPDATE 3/3/2012 This Philips photo display has now stopped working and is beyond repair after only 5 years use. I have had many Philips products and in my bitter experience this is typical of their poor quality. AVOID.

ORIGINAL REVIEW

STYLE
This is a very stylish photo frame, even the packaging oozes class, and the stand is very secure and heavy. The clear acrylic edge and white border sets off your pictures nicely and there is no Philips logo on the front, as shown on some advertising.

PICTURE QUALITY
This is excellent and compares well to others (I have 3 photo displays), there is only a brightness adjustment, but I have never felt the need for any other controls.

OPERATION
There are memory card slots - Note that the largest SD card it will accept is 1Gb, but thats about 1600 photos resized to suit the display size, about half if you take them straight from the camera. There is also internal memory and its possible to copy from cards to internal memory so your favourites are stored on it.

CONTROLS
There are buttons on the back, its difficult to find the right one, there is a legend you can put oncreen to help though. Buttons are for scrolling forward and back, slideshow, menu and copy. There is no remote control, and this displays stills only.

FEATURES
There are some good ideas unique to Philips, the brightness can be set to reduce at 6pm to allow for viewing in artificial light, an on/off timer can be set to any time, and when switched off, any key press will wake it up again. Functions are SLIDESHOW fully adjustable from a few seconds to 1 day, BROWSE mode which allows a single picture to be shown with the ability to scroll thru, and THUMBNAIL which shows 8 miniatures at a time.

PROBLEMS
This doesent like even 2Gb memory cards, so dont even think about SDHC, in an attempt to fit more pictures on the 1Gb card I resized them only to find that when the card is inserted it froze up. Switching on and off restores it but bear this in mind if you want to show lots of pictures. Also navigating large numbers of pictures is painfully slow. There is a firmware update to support 2Gb memory cards but I have not used this.
