It used to be enough for Portable Audio to be portable and audible. Today, however, nothing less than serious sound quality and compact, cutting-edge, 21st Century design is acceptable. Philips Portable Audio products deliver on the sound function via features such as Incredible Surround and Dynamic Bass Boost. And a quick look will tell you that Philips has surpassed itself when it comes to the design function. Record your ideas wherever you are, with this handy, pocketsize memo recorder. Voice-activated recording activates the unit's recording mechanism only when there's an audible sound source, and pauses the tape recorder when there is silence. Background noise suppression suppresses all background noise so that only your voice is picked up by the microphone. Cue/Review, Fast Forward, Rewind functions provide audible scanning through the tape to find a specific passage. 3-Digit tape counter enables you to manually index the recorded information on a cassette very precisely. LED indicator lights up to show that recording is in progress. High-quality built-in condenser microphone is provided for excellent quality sound recording. ...it sounds really good on both the radio and cassette. As I have already mentioned, the radio is a bit suspect to say the least, but once again, if you can get a good reception, on a local radio station for example, the sound is rather good. The cassetterecorder is as good as similar models of a similar price. The Cd player is functional at best. There is nothing wrong with the sound or layout of the player itself, but what lets it down badly is the lack of functions. No random play is a real let down, but if you combine that with the fact that the programme function is badly designed and flawed, it makes it almost impossible to do anything but listen to a Cd start to finish. You can’t even repeat a disc or track !
The price is only £30 (tesco) and at this price is not bad. I do have a little gripe with Phillips though. The stereo...

...This Philips boombox has great sound with excellent speakers, especially the wOOx speaker which gives it that extra power or zing. However you would call it. I bought this just to listen to CDs only and it gave me one of the best sound systems for a boombox. The amount of sound it provides is unbelievable. If you play music with a strong beat, you can see the wOOx speaker move completely out and then in again. This is value for money. If you go to Argos, you can get this for around £80 which is cheap for a company like Philips. You know you get quality when you buy a Philips. This is not only good for listening to music on, but because of the strong bass it provides a good beat and rhythm to dance to you. When I played this on full blast, I could feel the floor vibrate. ...So you want to record TV? - Forget it! - Philips DVDR3460H will let you down time and time again. Out of 5 sessions 3 were failures - and it could get worse.
Reason? - Philips have set themselves up as some sort of ‘media police’ and if the evenings transmission has just one ‘protected’ program, the Philips DVDR3460H will delete the whole evenings recording!
So you want to record from DVD to hard disk? - Forget it! - After loosing the original tape of a holiday to Egypt, I still had a copy on DVD and wanted to copy a back up to hard disk - the Philips DVDR3460H does not copy from it’s DVD to hard disk.
So you want to enjoy slow motion? - Forget it! - The Philips DVDR3460H ‘On Screen’ display covers so much of the screen you will be lucky to see the pitch, let alone the ball!
There is no option to hide on screen displays during playback...
