Advantages: Fast Response Time, clear screen Disadvantages: Sound could be better
...Was given this as a Xmas present and it is a fantastic 17" LCD TFT. The response time 8ms shows no blurring when playing games or watching a DVD.
Case is very solid and is nice silver. The stand is very solid and can be removed to use the 100x100mm VESA wall mount (not included). DVI and normal VGA connectors are at the back and also a 3.5mm plug that can attach to your soundcard, although sound through the stereo could be better.
The speakers run across the bottom of the monitor rather than the side, so the physical size of the monitor maybe be larger than what people would prefer.
On screen controls are very straightforward to use, as are the two USB (type a and B) ports.
Installation was quick and easy, plug it in and just use it - no set up needed, although drivers come with it and a utility that guides you on setting up resolution...

Advantages: Quality of build, price (!), clear screen for text + gfx, great user interface Disadvantages: Slight curves at edges (but nothing distracting)
...in the middle showing green for on and working, and orange for suspend. Note that it is a true suspend to save power not a fake blank screen. The monitor detects the cable connections and will visually report the failure if the cable is unplugged,.
Overall a very good monitor I recommend to all future buyers. Yes there is cheaper, but value for money cannot be beaten with the Philips 109S40. A monitor I am proud to take with me to gaming LANs.
