Firstly I would recommend looking closely at the specs of any phones you get. For example some don't come with a backlit display so you could be left fumbling around in the dark if the phone goes during the night.
Luckily the Phillips CD445 has a nice blue backlit display. It was also very simple to setup and use within 10 mins. The instructions were great and proved a good reference guide for anything that I couldn't work out myself.
The answerphone is great and means I can screen all those annoying sales calls that you get during the day. A speakerphone option is also available for hands free calling.
Sadly, there is a downside, an important downside that the battery life is very poor, in fact within a few days of purchase I made one 5 min call and had already used 1 bar of the 3 available in the battery life indicator.
However, having said that, the phone is great for me as I needed it more for screening incoming calls with the voicemail than making outgoing calls.
Advantages: OK if just used with the handset with easy to use recorder. Disadvantages: Very poor hands free sound quality and volume.Range not good.
The CD445 has a lot going for it but I will still be returning it for the following reasons.
The range is not as good ie. would only work well through one block wall up to approx 6 mtrs.
I use hands free a lot but the maximum volume , both on hook and the handset is far too quiet (and "tinny") -unusable.
On hook dialling is annoying because the base unit slides away with each press of the keys.
The display uses a large font with time and date showing on hook, a useful feature, but the contrast between the text and the bright blue background is poor, and the four stage adjustment seems to make very little difference.
Finally the choice of ring tones is awful !!! ...
