Advantages: record anything as a landline phone ring-tone mp3/cd etc Disadvantages: rather small
This philips phone comes in a box of two handsets, one of which has an answer machine in the base station, and the second one is an extension of the main one which doesn't have to be plugged into a phone socket, just a plug socket. The usefulness of this is that the second handset can be placed somewhere where you may not have a phone socket i.e kitchen etc the main reason I bought this phone set is because it let's you download ring-tones to it ... ...be downloaded from a 0906 philips number costing £1.50 min and not saying how long it lasts. So the way round this which was the main feature for me when choosing this phone is the option to record personal melody/sounds where you can choose any mp3file/cd/sound or whatever(cow mooing etc) all you have to do is have a sound playing and put the phone next to speakers and record as a personal melody, and then set it as your ring-tone and there it plays! ... more

The usefulness of this is that the second handset can be placed somewhere where you may not have a phone socket i.e kitchen etc the main reason I bought this phone set is because it let's you download ring-tones to it and record anything you want on to it as a phone ring, at the time I bought this about a year ago it was the only one having this feature. The only problem with the downloading part is that you have a sheet in the box of where you download different songs from(tv series/radio hits/movie songs etc) btw you can also download answer machine messages(not that i would) and all this has to be downloaded from a 0906 philips number costing £1.50 min and not saying how long it lasts. As a fan of '24' series I liked the 'CTU' ring-tone I got it for free off a website as an mp3 file, and then just played it back on the pc and recorded onto the phone, and now have the CTU ring tune when the phone rings just like the real thing, of course you could have anything else ringing-coldplay etc(try and avoid crazy-frog!!) basically just like a mobile but on a home phone, but of course speaking of a mobile the buttons are a little small, the handset itself is the same size as most mobiles, you can also put a name on each handsets display screen so as not to mix them up i.e lounge/kitchen/room needing diy or whatever you want, also as the phones are linked wirelessly when you input something i.e new phone number contact/update clock etc they both get updated rather than having to do both, it also has a side scroll button to easily go through address book and recent call-logs. So basically an interesting phone if you want to play your own sounds rather than factory built in ones(quite irritating for the most) there may be other phones that let you have this facility on the market now, but this one does the job for me at the moment.
