I have been using the Philips DVDR 75 for approximately 1 month now I can highly recommend it to you all as an excellent replacement fro your VCR.
The recorder has 6 setting allowing you to fit varying amount of time onto a single DVD disc. This ranges from 1 hour which is better than DVD quality to 6 hours which is about equal to long play on a VCR. The latter is ideal for recording your everyday shows.
Where this comes into its own is the ability to transfer all your old home movies onto DVD discs that will practically last forever. The discs will not deteriorate everytime you play them as VHS tapes do as well. Once you have transferred them onto DVD you will notice that the picture quality is improved. You will spend many an hour watching you kids when they were younger !
The set up is fairly simple. I have got mine connected to my SKY digibox by scart and also connected to my TV by scart as well. There is no need to connect the recorder up to the TV ariel as the recording quality is vastly improved by recording directly off the scart signal.
You will need a good supply of DVD+r or DVD+RW discs as you will find so much that you will need to transfer to shiny disc. The cost of DVD blanks is reducing all the time as well which is a good point.
The remote control is a little basic but it does the job well and looks good.
