On purchasing Philips DVDR880 recorder (dvd+rw format)everything was fine for first few months(infact under used) and then for no apparent reason would get 'DISC ERROR' messages on loading some shop brought dvd films.
All available methods to remedy were tried (ie lense cleaner etc)and Philips contacted as a last resort! Only help offered so far by them was to upgrade firmware in player and see how it went on! Still problem persisted and Philips are investigating! needless to say i brought this product a year and a half ago and Philips discontiuned it a year after it went on sale speaks highly for it i think!
As for functions and ease of use it has everything is easy to use. Even instruction and setup was very easy to follow.

So buyer beware and buy either a later model ie one thats been on the market a while or try another brand!

Footnote 16/03/04:

Philips have now taken the player back , repaired it (unknown as yet repairs) and are sending back tommorow! So will either re-do review to what the player is like now or will i.........
