...The philips 850 AT is by far the best DVD player i have seen. I have viewed films through other DVD'S and this has the best picture and sound quality. It comes with very easy to use instructions and these also guide you through the easy steps of installation. The remote control is very easy to use and this also described in the instructions. It is a great design one of the best i have seen from philips, it is slimline so fits into any space above your T.V set.Overall i would give the philips 850 AT 9 out of 10.... Read review

...Owners of these have been FUMING on the Philips support forums for more than a year. They simply don't work. They crash (!) playing many DVD's, they freeze randomly, etc. Philips has admitted these problems exist (and did so in mid 2005) but has ignored all requests for a fix, while continuing to sell them. Instead, user after user has been told to send their machine in for repair - where it sits for 2-3 months, and is then returned either unfixed, or with new problems. Yet, Philips continues to sell the product! I am not making this up. Check the streamium support forums, and browse around - you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who isn't steaming mad at Philips. Advantages: ease of use/setup
Disadvantages: stuck to the dvd+ format

...On purchasing Philips DVDR880 recorder (dvd+rw format)everything was fine for first few months(infact under used) and then for no apparent reason would get 'DISC ERROR' messages on loading some shop brought dvd films. All available methods to remedy were tried (ie lense cleaner etc)and Philips contacted as a last resort! Only help offered so far by them was to upgrade firmware in player and see how it went on! Still problem persisted and Philips are investigating! needless to say i brought this product a year and a half ago and Philips discontiuned it a year after it went on sale speaks highly for it i think! As for functions and ease of use it has everything is easy to use. Even instruction and setup was very easy to follow. So buyer beware and buy either a later model ie one thats been on the market a while or try... Read review
