After a lot of research into what iron to buy for our budget (£40) I decided to buy Philips GC3232 EasyCare iron. I bought it from Curry's at £39.99. Prices online and high street stores are all around the same mark give or take a couple of pounds.
So.. the iron.
My first comment is how easily it glides due to Philips Careeza soleplate which glides easily over all types of fabric that I have been able to test in my home.
The water inlet is rather large (in comparison to irons I have used) with very little risk of spilling water when filling up. Although quite messy if you add too much water and need to it empty out.
It has 3 metres of cord which, for me, is more than enough to manouvre the iron freely across the board (and to reach to the door way so I can watch T.V. while doing the chore!) The cord length is a little harder to store neatly I find though. The iron has a 360o swivel cord which reduces cord knotting or tangling.
The iron has a 300ml tank and water viewer so you can easily see how much water you have left in the tank. While on full steam I find that the tank needs filling up regularly, much more than previous irons I have used. The iron is quite heavy when filled to 'full' I find.
The iron boasts a double active calc system which claims to prevent scale from clogging the steam vents and flushes out any loose scale particles still inside the iron. I cannot comment on this part of the iron as I have only owned it for a month.
You can use this iron for vertical steaming by using the burst of steam button which is very handy for jacket sleeves and seams.
There's no auto-shut off so the iron won't turn itself off after periods of being idle which I find a shame.
Key specifications Steam output : 35 g/min Shot of steam : 95 g/min Vertical shot of steam : 95 g/min Power at 220-240V : 2300 W
Overall I have to say that the iron you receive for around £40 glides so well, produces enough steam to cope with bedlinen, irons my clothes and my child's clothes adequately, copes much better with my husbands shirts as it glides around the buttons easily. I have also noticed that I now iron much quicker too. I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this iron.
