Advantages: Fast load up, excellent battery life, good sound quality. Disadvantages: Fingerprints show on touch pad, can crash, XP only, basic manual.
...So I went to the Philips website, which helped me out tremendously and I found out all you have to do is push the on/off button to the off position while pressing + on the volume control (Easy). When the player crashes, you do not lose any music files/or settings, its just a case of resetting the unit, so you can play it again. It has crashed twice in the four months I have owned it.
The Philips website is generally helpful, though ... ...you can generally find what you need on there.
I do not have a problem using this player, however it is only compatible with microsoft XP. The player synchronizes with windows media player, though I have experienced problems with this media player in the past, I have not done so since owning the Philips.
Unfortunate accidents with the unit have occured, like my girlfriend spilling her drink (accidently, she says) and ... more
I bought this 30GB mp3 player from ebay, not having high expectations for the product. I did some research and got a good price for it. The sound quality is good for any avid music listener. It has variable rates of quality for the mp3 (with variable bit rate and fixed bit rate avaliable from 64 - 320 kbps). It has different sound modes including Rock, jazz, pop etc. You can listen to wav/mp3/wma files, check out the jpeg's from your digital camera, and look at the album covers. There is also a recording mode, I have recorded a few things and have been surprised with the quality of the microphone/sound. The battery life has been exceptional, considering what I've heard of the ipod, I use the player everyday for 2-4hours and only have to recharge it twice a week.
The finger control, which is touch sensitive is a really nice touch, it lights up when you use it but fingerprints easily show up, even if your hands are clean! Also, the player has a tenderancy to crash and was a bugger to find out how to reset it. The manual does not give any support for this type of problem. So I went to the Philips website, which helped me out tremendously and I found out all you have to do is push the on/off button to the off position while pressing + on the volume control (Easy). The Philips website is generally helpful, though I don't have any experience with their customer support, but you can generally find what you need on there.

Unfortunate accidents with the unit have occured, like my girlfriend spilling her drink (accidently, she says) and it has also been dropped (a few times) and works perfectly well.
Advantages: incredible sound quality, high volume, adjustable EQ, and sexy looks Disadvantages: Poor interface, Touchscreen does not function correctly, poor PC coordination and poor support
...very good. This is something Philips are renowned for - and something which throughly shines through with this HDD. The highs are crisp, and the bass notes are well defined - not a blur like with some other players. This quality is accentuated by the bundled headphones, which are well padded in-ear style, and are very high quality - something which would be expected of headphones somewhere in the £30 region (which is alot for in-ear phones).
The ... ...i personally think it is let down by the touch-sensitive scrollbar, as pretty as it may look. I think that it takes far too much getting used to - and that with an MP3 plyaer costing almost 200 pounds it should be something which is immediately adaptable to, and can be used straight out of the box. The Other buttons on the player are the same type of touch-sensitivity - which becomes irritating after a time, especially in high temperatures where ...

Advantages: looks nice Disadvantages: just doesn't work
...with - this effort from Philips bears no comparison to the Apple i-Pod whatsoever. Most people will find themselves looking at this player as an alternative but to honest this is not worth bothering with.
I first bought this after my 30 gig 4th gen i-Pod died and I felt that Apple was not going to get any more of my money. I purchased this from Amazon as it was discounted by nearly £100 so I thought "How bad could it be?" right? Wrong. This product ... ...fixed at some point if Philips bring out yet another firmware update. What cannot be fixed is the basic functionality of this MP3 player. Remember that cool looking buttonless facia? The one that lights up when you run a finger over it? Yeah, that one; the one now covered in unsightly finger marks. Try putting it into the cool looking neoprene slipcase that Philips provide and put it into your pocket and try listening to music. I am assuming that ...

Advantages: Nicely designed mp3 player Disadvantages: Poor documentation, uses Windows Media Player, doesn't work for me
...will be referring to the Philips mp3 player throughout this review as "PMMP", an acronym for "Poor Man's Mp3 Player".
After my Creative Zen Touch failed on me, I was looking for a new mp3 player and came across a deal for a refurbished version of the PMMP. I'd read one or two initial bad reviews and wasn't incredibly enthusiastic about the prospect of transferring files using Windows Media Player, but was swayed by the cheap price and the thought ... ...isn't enough. The decision from Philips to provide most of their documentation on the cd provided is, in my opinion, a very poor one. When installing the software and going through the set-up process for the PMMP, it is a necessity to have the relevant documentation in front of you and physically accessible. The experience of scrabbling through pdf files when I'm having software/hardware difficulties, just doesn't, to use the parlance, "float my ...

Advantages: Lightwieght, great Battery life, quality sound, supersize music and picture storage Disadvantages: easily scratched, no reset button
This is a great MP3 player. lets not joke around here pound for pound against an ipod this is 100% better value for money. I have to be honest and say I will not go into real detail on features here other reviews might be a little more helpful there. What I will say is that this item is simple straightforward to use and has a groovy touch sensitive face and some nice sound enhancment options. On the downside though the screen is very easily marked ... ...and the touch sensitive operation on the device is not affected.
It Sounds great, stores more music and pictures than you could ever put on it and works well. The only really bad experience I had with this device was when it was downloading music from my pc, the PC crashed causing the MP3 player to do the same thing. It would not respond untill the battery had run out as I could not turn it off or reset it. When I recharged it, all of the existing ...

Advantages: Actual Mp3 music in MASS Quantities, Cool/Smooth Controls Disadvantages: Maybe 1cm thicker than most players, but its 30 Gigabytes!
Nice interface, very elegant controls, looks great, sounds great, holds TONS of music and pictures! An all-around awesome player! I even recorded some nice Arabic news and music while in Iraq! Crystal clear AM/FM radio reception, one thing not mentioned here. Use it for dictating notes (stores into .wav files) and easy to manipulate. Also, RAW MP3 FILES!!! No messing around with download Apple services! THAT was worth it all, right there. ACTUAL ...
