Another really useful, and extremely stylish, aspect of this kettle is the handle. It is of a slightly textured, black synthetic material and is a wonderfully rounded shape. It is also big enough to hold with both hands which, for me with my wrists, is really helpful.

Unlike some cordless kettles, where you have to boil a fair amount of water to cover the element, the Phillips Filterline HD4601 has an element which is almost flush with the bottom of the kettle, meaning you can boil quite small amounts. This is important for several reasons; economy of use, speed and weight. The weight factor is important to me because I have trouble with my wrists and find lifting heavy items can be troublesome.

The lid fits well although I have scalded myself, very slightly, if the kettle is very full and I have tipped it right up to empty it. Generally, though, the lid does not come off accidentally and it is topped with a cute little ‘ball’ handle on the top.
As for the filter, it slides in neatly behind the spout. I tend to fill the kettle through the spout so it seems that, if there was any debris on the filter, it would be being washed back in. However, we are in a soft water area and really don’t need the filter facility.
Being stainless steel, the kettle is easy to keep clean and looks great.
We have had ours nearly six years and the filter gave up the ghost earlier this year. I am not in a rush to replace it as there is no limescale in the kettle anyway.
I hope this kettle keeps going for many years to come. It is an integral part of the ‘look’ of my kitchen and compares really well to, and probably surpasses, much dearer ‘designer’ kettles.
Advantages: Robust washable filter, Smart Appearance, Easy Pour Disadvantages: Don't overfill it
We bought our Phillips kettle at a local auction, which has the only licence for electrical goods in our part of the country, at half price with a full guarantee. so it was a real bargain as it was the exact same one we were planning on buying in the shops at full price, which was around £50 at the time, but we found it would have been a good buy even if we had paid the full price. Prices have gone down at the moment, because of similiar designs ... ...a hard water area, the filter has held out, only now just starting to show signs of wear. The inside is still looking good, and the outside, with it's appealing round design still looks fairly smart (apart from the odd dent off course).
The only problem i have found is you have to be careful not to over fill it, as i used to when making up baby feeds, because of the shape/design if you do when the water boils some may run down the sides into the ...

Advantages: Looks great and is cordless. Disadvantages: Can be heavy when full.
I would just like to add once the kettle is full with water it is very heavy, People with wrist problems could not take the weight.
But as the base contains a flat concealed element it allows it to bboil with very little water in. This is good for the environment as it reduces the amount of energy required to boil a cup of water.
It does take longer to boil than a more modern kettle but the looks of the kettle compliment any kitchen.

Advantages: Attractive stainless steel. Disadvantages: Slower than some of the modern kettles.
This kettle is a well made example as expected from a maker such as Philips. I bought it many years ago for around the £40 mark if i remember correctly.
It is attractive being stainless steel but does require careful cleaning to maintain the bright apperance. I maintain mine using viakal. If you live in a soft water area it will take less maintainence as there is less limescale present in the water.
It boils quick as the element covers almost the ... ...as a cup of water to a full 1.7 litres if you want. The less you boil the better for the environment but also making it ideal for a one person household. It is a disc which isnt visible like the traditional kettles so is less likely to fur up. Any limescale furring which is produced is caught by the filter in the kettles spout. This filter is washable and easy to remove for cleaning. Soaking in a limescale remover i find the best to keep it clean.

Advantages: long lasting, washable filter Disadvantages: none
I bought this kettle nearly 7 years ago and it is still going strong! It is a cordless one and so it makes it really easy to pour from without getting tangled in flex, and it has a filter which is an essential extra when you live in a hard water area like Lincolnshire. I have never had any trouble with it and I am only on my second filter, having had to buy a replacement one beacue I accidentally tore the first while vigorously cleaning the scale ...
