INTRODUCTION TO THE PRODUCT

Since the introduction of this Phillips cordless kettle about seven years ago, it has been a popular choice with consumers. It quickly became sell established and revised models have been introduced to extend it's life cycle.

Although it wasn't the first cordless kettle to come onto the market place, it was the first one of it's style.

Retail prices vary from outlet to outlet and this particular model initially cost £55 at Homeworld.
Other versions are available and they range in price from £30 for a Bush version and up to £50 for a De Longhi model.

Compared to competitiors though Phillips seems to be the leader in the market and the brand name suggests quality, unlike the other less well known brands.

Other kitchen appliances and gadgets have influenced the purchasing of this product with saucepans, toasters and microwave ovens all available in classic stainless steel finish, becoming a more popular alternative to the old traditional white appliances.

AESTHETICS

The appearance of the kettle is expensive and of good quality. It is symetrical and pleasing to the human eye. There isn't any unnecessary detail in it's appearance or design. It is a very elegant adaptation of the conventional gas kettles.

The kettle is a machine aesthetic; the main body is made from spun stainless steel.

The roundness and boldness of the stainless steel body are broken up with well placed split lines as necessary. All of the edges are softened with curves. These all fall nicely within themselves and are in good proportion and continuity to the overall look of the product.

The black plastic trims are mellowed with a fine matt textured surface. The design of thse is complimentary to the overall finish.

Graphics are discreet, making it look almost as if it has none. The manufacturer's name takes a small place almost out of view without adding any unnecessary detail. It has a sturdy switch housing that looks a bit bulky 'stuck' on the side.

The pilot light sits flush to the base of the design to avoid symetry. the hole in which it sits is nicely filleted on the edges. These are in line with the rest of the design.

Overall the kettle has a well balanced appearance with plenty of style and character.

When the water is at boiling point, pressure from the steam inside the kettle will channel down to de-activate the on/off switch.

CONCLUSION

Easy to use, easy to pour. I would reccommend this product to anybody. It has no water level indicator but that isn't a problem as you can see how much water you have put in by lifting the lid.

Elderly people may put these on top of the stove and melt them from being familiar with old stove top kettles.

My mother has done this twice with hers! She now has a cylindrical one instead that topples on the stove.

9/10
