I have reviewed every electrical product and appliance in our flat, except for our kettle. This review will complete the set and there will be no more such reviews from me *sobs*. The kettle that I'm reviewing, is rather suprisingly made by Philips. My family has had it for a while and we have been very pleased with the usage we have had from it. I will try and give as detailed an account as possible, without boring you with silly technical details.
---Performance---
This is a pretty regular jug kettle. It is 2400 Watts so it's pretty powerful. It has a gauge along the side that indicates the level of water inside the kettle. It has a maximum capacity of up to three pints, which is the equivalent to one and a half litres. There is an anti-scale filter fitted, but this doesn't completely prevent a little bit of build-up. The kettle is cordless and is placed backed on the base unit which is connected to the mains to heat up the water. Once the water reaches boiling point the power is automatically cut. The water does heat up relatively quickly and when it is around half full it is at its most efficient.
---Durability---
This is a very durable kettle, we have had it for a couple of years now. It still looks as good as it was when we purchased it and it remains it's fully working order. We haven't had to make any repairs of any description and it has never not worked properly. I think this a mark of the quality of all Phillips products and it shows that they are extremely efficient and reliable. The actual casing and material that forms the kettle is very strong and hard wearing, you do tend to knock kettles around more than most appliances. When you fill the kettle, it is likely that you will knock it against the sink or the tap. There is no visible damage or even light surface marks or scratches.
---Instructions---
The instruction manual for this particular appliance is very thin and short. There isn't really an awful lot of guidance that can be given on how to operate a kettle, but what little there is, is really well done. The text is very simple to read, in both the wording and the text size and font itself. The information is broken down into sections that allow you to locate the details relevant to you. There is also a little index that will help you find out the information that you want. It is written in a number of other European languages as well.
---Maintenance---
From time to time, you may need to perform a little maintenance on the appliance. As with any kettle, you do tend to get a bit of limescale build up inside the kettle, which can easily be cleaned. The element itself is actually covered over, which means there is no need to have to clean it. The exterior surface, does tend to gather bits and pieces of dirt or food over time, so you may need to wipe the outside over with a damp cloth from time to time.
---Reccomendation---
This is a pretty good kettle, as kettles go, and if you have the opportunity to pick one up then I would certainly advise you to. They only cost around £25 so they are a bargain. Designed and produced by Philips, you can be pretty certain that you are buying a product that you can trust. It will also look pretty good in your kitchen, the modern silver brushed chrome look gives it a lot of style.
