We recently got a new kitchen installed and as soon as it was, all our old applianes looked really old and tired so we decided to get nice shiny new ones for our nice shiny new kitchen.
After buying a fridge freezer and washing machine, we went to ASDA one evening to look at their smaller kitchen appliances and spotted this kettle. It is brushed stainless steel so won't go grubby looking with fingermarks and was simple yet stylish. Also, with a brand like Philips I expected quality that would last.
We purchased it there and then for £25.47 and it came with a one year warranty. When we took it home to try it out we were pleasantly surprised. The kettle holds 1.7 Litres so more than enough to make teas/coffees when you have guests. The kettle also boils really quickly - when full it takes 3 minutes 58 seconds to boil and this gives you 6 large mugs of boiling water.
The kettle is mainly brushed stainlass steel and has a clear plastic window on both sides to show you the fill level (and also the max/min). Under the window there is the philips logo and the wording 3000W. I don't normally like branding on items but this is discrete enough that you hardly notice it.
The rest of the kettle (including the base) is made up of sturdy black plastic. I don't know how to describe this better but it looks good and not cheap and nasty, which is what I always think of when someone mentions plastic. The lid has a scooped out section where you can open it to fill the kettle.
The handle is sturdy and well designed as although the kettle does get hot on the outside, the handle does not and the plastic continues on to the main past of the kettle so you can't even burn the back of your hand.
The base means that the kettle can swivel 360 degrees and you can adjust the length of the electrical cable by tidying it away in the compartment under the base if necessary.
The switch is clear and has a small glowing orange light shown when the kettle has been switched on, again, very discrete.
I have only had to clean the outside of this kettle so far, but from what I can see, the inside looks really easy to clean. There is not a sticking out element like in most kettles, but rather, the whole of the bottom of the kettle is the element. The filter can be taken out for cleaning so the rest of it is readily accesible.
The kettle is also equipped with Boil-dry protection, which basically means that if the kettle is switched on with no water, or less than the minimum, it will switch itself off.
Overall, this is a great addition to our kitchen. It looks great, works well and was reasonably priced. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a new kettle.
Advantages: Great looking fast boiler & reasonable cost Disadvantages: Noisy!
Every 24 to 30 months I have to replace my kettle, why I know not but they only seem to last a month longer than the warranty! With this in mind one of my priorities is that I dont over spend knowing it will be replaced within 2 years or so.
Had to be brushed stainless steel to fit my decor & it makes it easier to keep looking new as opposed to shiny S/Steel!
Efficient in boiling & easy to refill & clean as I have teenagers who are reluctant to ... ...boiling dry a common mis-use by said teens.
Those were MY specs.......................my parents had just bought one of these & are usually good in their research & value for money , they did tell me it is noisy............I went ahead & bought one & am very pleased with its performance but as always parents are right & it is noisy! but I accept if you want a fast boiler at low cost etc you have to compromise & maybe the noise is it! nothing I cant ...

Quick review of Philips HD4666/22
I have 2 of these kettles, I'm working in a rented holiday appartment in France and it'sgot a few of disadvantages.
Firstly, when it heats up the outer metal casing becomes extremely hot, I've burnt myself a couple of times.
Secondly, not sure if it's because France has a lower mains voltage than the UK but it takes a good few minutes to heat up the water, painfully slow I'd go as far as to say.
Thirldy, those in hard or soft water areas, the limescale/scum is attracted to the metal inside of the kettle, not nice in your brew.
Fourthly, the snap-back lid design is very tricky to open, especially when new.
I wouldn't buy one again. ...

My kettle needed updating and I wanted something more stylish. You get that with this Phillips kettle. Looks smart and the silver isn't the type that leaves streaks and marks when cleaning or touching it. It has the following features
High gloss metal jug kettle 3000 Watts 1.7 litres capacity Removable washable scale filter Water level indication Cordless 360 degrees rotational base 3 level safety system Boil dry protection Easy to clean element ...

I PURCHASED THIS GORGEOUS KETTLE LAST MONTH AND HAVENT LOOKED BACK SINCE. ITS SO FUNCTIONAL ON ITS SWIVEL BASE AND BOILS IN A RECORD TIME WHICH I JUST FIND FANTASTIC WHEN YOU ARE IN A HURRY.
IT IS THE ULTIMATE CHOICE FOR ANYONE WISHING TO MIX STYLE WITH FUNCTION. THE HANDLE IS EASY TO GRIP AND IT DOESNT SEEM TO HEAVY EVEN WHEN FULL. MOST OF THE OTHER STAINLESS STEEL KETTLES I HAVE HAD BEFORE, ARE AS HEAVY AS HOUSE BRICKS WHEN FULL THIS WAS SO PLEASENTLY ...
