I invested in one of these as I did not have enough money to go out there and get myself an iPod. I saw this model and saw that although it did not have as much space as the iPod - was a lot cheaper and looked like the same sort of thing in terms of ease of use.
For the few months that I had this I was annoyed that it kept freezing practically everyday and would crash on a weekly basis. It wasn't anywhere near as good as I was expecting it to be - highly unreliable, and although it was fairly cheap compared to other models - it wasn't cheap to the extent that I wasn't bothered about its problems.

This was a really disappointing aspect as you had to charge it for when you wanted it and could not charge it for when you went away etc as by the time you come to using it the battery would be very low on life.
The earphones with this MP3 player were very poor - within a month I found that they were falling apart and no longer of any use. The MP3 player itself packed in within about 2 months and no longer worked. I hadn't dropped the MP3 player or anything - I just came to using it one day and it would not switch on. It was truly disappointing as I hadn't had it that long and definitely wasn't expecting it to have been broken.
The sound quality on this MP3 player is fairly good and this is one area I can't knock it on. The player supplied a good sound and it was a good MP3 player in this respect. I wasn't at all disappointed with the sound quality and felt that for this purpose my £159.99 had been well spent.
I have friends who bought the same MP3 player and they experienced the same problems with it. I know its not just me that has had problems with this Philips MP3 player and understand it that others have had the problem of it breaking on them. Advantages: Small, Light, attractive, good size, easy to use, durable. Disadvantages: software
Having wanted an Ipod for so long and not being able to afford one I chanced upon an offer too good to miss. Only £60 with 1.5GB memory and made by Philips, so took a chance and bought from Ebay. On receipt charged up the battery etc then set about dumping my MP3's onto the memory. Unfortunately the software provided crashed everytime I tried it on my Sony laptop so had to resort to using the player through Windows Media Player which is a little ... ...desktop machine though.
Once music was on the player it sounded fine, the earphones could have done with a volume control on them and smaller ear plugs but other than that the sound was perfect. The battery life is excellent, I have run mine for 10 hours plus without recharging. I have also dropped this player several times without smashing the screen or damaging the casement due to the excellent protection of the case.
In summary, at the price ...

Advantages: Small, Light-Weight, Good Looking Disadvantages: Hard to Transfer, buttons problamatic, Software
...there is little about the Philips HDDO60. It may well be able to store 2gb of music, but the time it takes to transfer a song will leave you reeling. For me to transfer one CD containing 1 hours music took 30minutes. This is because for you to be able to transfer the music, you have to save all the music onto your computer before going onto the player, this may not sound bad, which is common practice even on an Ipod, but it is simply the software. ... ...look better and weigh less than an Ipod mini, but the ipod is 10 times better than the philips mp3, and with the price similar, go for the ipod, because it comes with the brilliant itunes, compared to the dismal musicmatch software, not fit for a lego game. Stay Away. ...

I got the HDD060 as a present so can't really comment on the price Looks/durability: (good)
It's a compact little unit that fits easily in your pocket or has a strap so you can wear it round your neck if you want. Some little coloured decals are provided so you can have orange, yellow or blue sides but I think it looks ok as it is. It's fairly hard wearing as I've dropped mine a few times and worn it in the rain and it still works!
Earphones: (good)
... ...range, they also fitted in my ears better than other sets I've had due to the moulded rubber covers. The shape of the covers channels most of the sound directly to your ear drum which makes them seem a lot louder.
Software: (bad)
The software was the big letdown with this player I installed everything as the manual stated but couldn't detect the unit or upload any music, after a bit of searching on the net I found that the Musicmatch Jukebox software ...

In conclusion I would say that the Philips HDD060 is the ideal beginners MP3 player. It is great to use, it looks fashionable and concise and importantly it isn't over complicated and anything that you don't understand is solved with its handy manual. ...

...something else (cheaper lol) and Philips looked good and was only (like its nothing hahaha) £159.99!
It sounded good, played well and stored an average amount of MP3's. It claimed it could store 1,000 however buy 500 it was looking pretty full and these weren't massive files i was putting it!
The set up was easy put the CD in folow the instructions but the instruction booklet itself was in acrobat (which my comp didnt have) and once you got strted ... ...this annoy, when I phoned Philips they would say just restart it. And were actually quite rude!
Maybe I had a faulty one or just bad luck but for £160 you want better!
I'd suggest paying the extra £50 and getting something better! As I have since done. ...

Advantages: This is a small and portable MP3 player for a good price. Disadvantages: You have to be more precise with your choice of music with a 1.5gb hardrive
This is a must get MP3 player! It is good value and you get alot for your money. If you are thinking of buying then go ahead because for the size (1.5gb) it is cheap compared to the Rio and PhillipsHDD060. A good add-on is the radio opack with it.
I think that the stylish blue and silver design with the light small case bought it for me. It is durable enough to be able to be carried aroung in a pocket. It has helped me on many long comutes to London.
It has a long lasting rechargable battery which are easy replaced for a low cost (unlike i-POD!).
But finally the main thing is the easy to use buttons which makes one handed thum scrolling alot easier!
Some pretty sweet stats under the sleek shell. It can hold up to 850 songs (rufly about 3.5 mins each) and has a lit backscreen for finding your songs easier. You won't be ...
