I have never used an electric shaver before purchasing this Ladyshave several months ago. I used to use a manual shaver with disposable blades, but I was getting tired of the expensive cost of replacing the blades, and the way that the blades (which went blunt so quickly) irritated my skin. The Ladyshave name was familiar to me and I had heard positive things about it from friends. It also appealed to me that you could use it wet or dry, so I decided to purchase one in Boots. It cost Ģ29.99, as there was a Ģ5 off promotion running at the time.
Look and Feel:- The Ladyshave is grey/blue in colour and approximately 15 cm long. The outer casing of the shaver is mostly grey/blue plastic, which has a subtle and slightly glittery shimmer to it. In the middle section of the shaver there is an area with a grey rubber-like finish, to give greater grip as the rest of the plastic casing is quite shiny and smooth, and slippery when used in the shower or bath.
In the middle of the Ladyshave on the rubber area are two soft convex buttons (one for on, the other for off). These are easy and comfortable to press. On the side of the head of the shaver, there is a small round switch which you can move to three different settings for the different body areas that the shaver is suitable for: underarms, bikini line and legs. This switch is positioned next to a small simplified figure of a woman, with the parts of the woman corresponding to the different switch locations. Unlike the soft buttons on the front of the shaver, I found the switch reasonably stiff to operate and slightly fiddly when your hands are covered in shaving gel because of the small size, but it wasn't really problematic.
At the top of the shaver is the shaving foil, which is approximately 3.5cm long and 1cm wide. When the shaver is set to the underarm mode, the foil is a golden colour. When the shaver is set to the bikini line mode, it is gold and silver striped, and when it is set to the leg mode, it is silver. I think this is a nice touch, because it means you can tell what area the shaver is set to without having to inspect the switch on the side. On either side of the shaving foil area there are two pale blue plastic strips that Philips call the "jojoba glider". Although I have not used other electric shavers before (and thus not used shavers without this feature), I think it means that the shave is smoother and it helps the shaver slide over your skin better.
It slightly surprised me how noisy the shaver was when switched on. Obviously I expected a buzzing sound, but it's certainly louder than the electric shavers that I have seen male friends use. Having said that, this didn't bother me at all, I just felt it was worth a mention if you were expecting a whisper-quiet buzz as it's not something you can tell until you buy it and take it out of the box to use it!
Shave Results:- When using the Ladyshave on my legs, I found it to be very effective, both in the shower and dry. The finish felt smooth, even without using any shaving gel or moisturising products. It's nice to know that I can pick up the Ladyshave any time I like, and know that it will give me smooth, soft legs, without having to think about replacing razor blades or whether it'll irritate my skin! I found that with very short stubble, I had to press the shaver down reasonably hard as I ran it over my legs because otherwise it just wouldn't catch these small hairs. I think this would probably be my main criticism of it when used on my legs, as otherwise it was very effective and easy to use.
I think I preferred the results when I used the shaver dry, but this isn't necessarily a criticism of the shaver's performance in water, more a criticism of my ability to use it well in the shower. I found that when I used the shaver dry, I could sit and look and feel my legs that bit better than I could in the shower, meaning I didn't miss areas or not shave the hairs completely. In the shower, because of the uncomfortable angles and not being able to see as well, I found that I missed areas and the finish wasn't as smooth as I'd like.
However, I was slightly disappointed with the performance of the shaver in other regions. I found the Ladyshave was not very comfortable to use on my sensitive underarm area, and it was not very effective at removing small hairs here either. It was hard to get a closer shave, because unlike the skin covering your leg which is more taught and remains in one place, the underam is at a joint so there is more flexibility in the skin, meaning when the shaver is pressed against it it moves around more and possibly catches the blade in an uncomfortable manner.
Furthermore, I also found it rather impractical and uncomfortable to use on the bikini line area, mainly because although the size of the shaver isn't a problem when you're doing your legs, it feels reasonably bulky when you're doing a smaller area, and because of the larger size, it is quite hard to see what you are doing, especially when in the shower!
Protection, Cleaning and Maintenance:- The Ladyshave comes with a clear plastic cover to place over the shaving foil at the top to protect it, and also with a simple and elegant cream drawstring pouch with a satiny finish to save the casing of the ladyshave from any bumps or scratches, even though it feels pretty robust!
It also comes with a small black brush with reasonably coarse bristles; a longer, thinner set of bristles on one and and a broader, shorter set of bristles on the other. I found this brush extremely useful and efficient at removing stray hairs.
The paper instructions that come with the shaver give you all the information you need to know (as well as useful diagrams) about charging the shaver and cleaning it (done by simply removing the hard plastic shaving head and using the brush to brush away the hairs). It also has some more technical advice on how and when to replace the shaving foil and cutter block.
Packaging:- The Ladyshave comes in a purple, almost square box, with the Philips brand name at the top and the words "Ladyshave softselect" and the model information at the bottom. The box depicts a slightly smaller than real size photograph of the shaver, and a woman in a vest using it on her legs. The inner packaging is the typical, reasonably crude moulded cardboard with a space for the plug charger, the shaver, the pouch with the brush, the instructions and the two-year warranty.
Overall, I would recommend this shaver to anyone looking for a simple, easy to use alternative to disposable razors. Although it has its shortcomings (not being terribly effective on the underarm area), it is certainly a very effective on legs, it's cheaper in the long run than buying disposable razor blades and it's a very durable, quality product.
Advantages: compact. Disadvantages: its not good shaving at all.
Hi there in my opinion Philips HP 6328 Soft Select doesnt do what it says it does.I used one myself and its doesnt shave your legs smooth at all.It shaves of lots of hair on legs and other places , but you shave your legs for a long time and after doing that for about 30 mins my legs was still not smooth and was very rough on my legs. The hair on the legs didnt all go away there was still some hair on my legs and brisly. It compact to store put it ... ...plug in to recharge it.After 3 months i have to go and buy new silver foil that was in the shaver as the one i had wasnt cutting at all.The only place i could get them was Boots the chemist.Had to order them and wait 3 days, and cost Ģ5.99.To much to buy every there months i thought. You can use the razor underwater but i wont advise it. ...

I completely agree with the other review of this product - I too bought my shaver when it was on special offer as an emergency replacement for an old shaver, and I was incredibly disappointed.
The only good setting from the three is the leg shaver one (which to be fair does give a decent shave), but to shave the underarms, you really have to dig in, and it can make the skin red and sore. The bikini attachment is actually completely useless, and ... ...good shave.
I think the main problem with this shaver is the soothing plate either side of the razor: instead of soothing and calming, it simply puts distance between your skin and the razor, meaning you have to really dig in to get any effect at all. As well as this, I find the battery life incrediby short, and the cable on the charger is not long enough to plug it in and stand it on a table.
I would definitely not buy this product again, and ...

Advantages: can use it in shower, handy stand Disadvantages: doesn't acutally really work
I bought this in the January sales as it was on offer in Boots. It has three settings that supposedly lower and raise the foil so that it can be used on legs, underarms and the sensitive bikini area. I took it home, gave it a go, and was massively disappointed. Basically, it doesn't work. It's handy that it has it's own stand that has little suction feet to put it on, and it is rechargable and can be used in the shower. I tried it on all the different ... ...didn't appear to make much difference at all. The setting for legs brings the foil closest to the skin, so it should be the best shave. However, it was almost useless. I got a result if I ran the shaver really slowly over the area several times, but it took ages. I then tried the other settings on the appropriate areas and again it was almost useless. Eventually I went over the same area so many times that I damaged my skin. I ended up using a disposable ...

I was given this as a Christmas present in 2007 from my husband as I really wanted a new one and it is absolutely rubbish! I now have to go buy another one, going to do reviews before I buy the next one. It does not work, no matter what setting I put it on none of my hairs are cut. I was told this one was the best, but it is not. I have tired using it on a number of occasions but keep having the same result. I would advise everyone not to buy this ...
