For a couple of years now I wanted to buy an electrical shaver. I have been shaving for more than 12 years and, with few exceptions, I used a razor (Gillette mostly). Recently I have tried a friend's electrical razor (it was a Brown older model) and I liked the speed of it, I didn't need any shaving foam/gel and the cut was at least average. Then I began reading more about some electrical shavers, even tried one out in a shop in Germany. Recently, one of the largest home appliances shop networks in Romania went online and I checked out their webpage. There, I found the Philips HQ 7830 Quadra at a reasonable price (around 90 euros), plus it came with a 5% discount if bought online. Then I started to read more on this model. That shop also had the 6707 model, with a fairly similar price, but upon reading the reviews, both here and on other websites, I decided to go with the 7830 one. It was a very good decision. Now, about the shaving. I was extremely surprised to see (and feel) that it is actually better than a razor (for me at least). The skin feels very soft, independ of the direction I touch it from. This is one of the reasons why my girlfriend likes it even more than me. I generally don't have to insist very much on one spot in order to have all the hairs cut. I have used it both on a 2-day and week-long beard and it works the same (that it, very neat).
About the rash: I have a quite sensitive skin (for instance, I get a mild rash on my neck after wearing a shirt and tie for a whole day), so I was a bit anxious to see what the "reaction" my neck would have to the electrical shaver. As said in the manual, in the first 2 weeks (about 3 shaves a week) there was a rash, especially beneath the chin down to the lower neck, but whith every shave the reaction got smaller. About the trimmer: at first, I had some trouble with it, because the instructions in the booklet were not extremely helpful, but after a shave or two I got the hang of it and now it is really easy to trim the sideburns (I don't have a mustache).
About cleaning: it is extremely easy to clean (way easier than cleaning my razor blades)-you just open the shaving unit, put it under hot water, the same with the rotors, the trimmer and it's all clean. Afterwards, you close the shaving unit, shake it a bit to tkae out the excess water and just leave it to dry out in normal atmosphere (not close to a heating source or something alike). About the battery: when I got it, the battery was almost out, so I had to recharge it before using it for more than a minute. It took less than an hour and I've been using it for about a month now and it's still running.
About the noise and vibration: it makes very little noise and there is no vibration (the control you have over it is very good, with a firm hold and very maneuverable). Even with the trimmer on, it is still quiet (but noisy enough to know it is working). About the package: it comes with a charger (220V for Romania), a double brush (which I seldom use, because water does the trick), a carrying pouch (which is big enough for the shaver, the charger and even a small after-shave container), a booklet in 15 languages and the waranty papers.
In conclusion, this is one of the best things I have ever bought, very useful and a very nice surprise when it comes to the after-shave skin feel.
