Having wet shaved my whole life, I've decided to invest for an electric dry shaver. Why? Because wet shaving is a pain for me (I switched from Gilette Fusion Power) and I simply don't have enough time to wet shave. Trying not to disappoint my first experience with an electric shaver, I've chosen the Philips Philishave HQ9190 SmartTouch XL which is the top of the range model from the No.1 electric shaver producer (Philips). Buying it from Amazon saved me over 80 quids from high street price (i.e. Boots price 198quids). Delivery was superfast, I ordered on Saturday and the parcel arrived on Tuesday - best of all it was free.
The HQ9190 was well packaged in an attractive looking box. When opened, the package contained a striking metal-case for the shaver, a standard electric cord, the HQ9190 wrapped in security seal, a charging stand with a tiny clock, user manual and a small brush. This product also come with a 2-year limited warranty from Philips. Out of the box, I just plugged it in and waited about an hour for it to be completely charged for the first time.
The LCD screen is illuminated with blue light and is very attractive. It shows the duration of the time you have left until the battery run out, charging status, cleaning status etc. A handy LCD screen, in deed. Pressing the on/off button for 3 seconds put the shaver into travel lock mode to prevent unintended operation.
Testing the shaver for the first time, I've chosen the "normal" mode for sensitivity. I notice a very quiet motor when I turned it on. I started shaving in a circular motion on both of my cheeks and it felt a far cry different from wet-shaving. I am a person with sensitive skin and the HQ9190 did very little if any irritation to my face at all. It also cuts very close, especially on the upper-lip area which I tend to have a problem wet-shaving there due to sensitive skin. Although shaving my neck gave me a little bit of rash, it was much less than when I was using my Gilette Fusion (wet shaving). Once you're done with your shaving and turned the shaver off, the LCD screen displays the battery time (minutes) you've used and the "Clean" sign appears. To clean this shaver, simply rinse it through hot water for a while. It's that simple.
On the whole, as I've just experienced this shaver out of the box today - I can say it's a wonderful product all men should have. It is worth every pound spent, the quality of the shaver, the smoothness it gives to my face and the bundled accessories makes up perfect value. Highly recommended.
N.B. The shaver needs 3 weeks to "burn in" or adjust to the shape of your face and hair? So I should get an even better shaving in 3 weeks time!
Advantages: easy to use, close shave, nice on skin Disadvantages: none
I bought this shaver because I wanted the best plain and simple and it's gonna get used everyday. It flies through tough areas and it seems like I can shave in half the time of my Braun. The 9190 feels like a champ in my hand, looks good and is quiet as well. It's a piece of cake to clean and I enjoy using it! I love everything about the shaver itself. It does what its supposed to well with the added benefit of excellent feel, simplicity and looks. ... ...the info you really need. You get up to 90 minutes shaving time on a one hour charge... perfect when there's no time to fool around looking for plugins. The shaver is easy to clean, you just rinse it under the tap with individual head cleaning by removal recommended once a month. There is a sensitivity adjustment and trimmer as well so you can customize your shave. It has a travel lock and a nice hard case so it stays safe and off in your bags. The ...

...is that where my old philips model had a thin two pin plug this one has a (small) transformer at the plug end. This means that I can no longer plug the shaver. I've had Philishave shavers most of my shaving life and always the top of the range model, but this HQ9190 is by far the best yet. What a close shave! I use the normal setting and use only hot water to rinse after each shave and the performance is stunning, not even a hint of a rash, very ... ...the hairs that other shavers miss. There are no akward places now, not the neck or even under the nose. I hadn't had a shave for 3 days when I used the HQ9190 for the first time and it was smooth as silk and removed some seriously long stubble without effort. If you can afford the price tag, take it from a seasoned Philishave user, get the HQ9190 and you'll never look back. It's a stunning looking shaver too. If you are stuck for a present then get ...

I have had this electric razor for a little over a month now and although my wallet still moans each time i get it out i only have to rub my chin to remind myself that it was worth it.
I will not bore you with the science ... ...3 cutting blades which has to be good doesnt it. The heads are fully adjustable but I find that on any setting this cuts just as well.
A nice feature is that the razor through its base washes, dries and charges your shaver each night with no mess or fuss so although a brush is included hey who needs it!!
At the end of the day the razor ouses quality, it sits nicely in your hand and is heavy enough to feel like you are not going to break it but ...

Unlike the previous review, this item cannot automatically wash the heads but you can rince it under the tap. Perhaps the user was referring to a higher model.
The shaver is very quiet and comfortable to fit in the hand, comes with a nice case ... ...30 days - ive used it for 7 so far).
Only bugbear is that the shave is no where near close to my old Braun 10 year old single foil shaver. It takes me an extra 2-3 minutes shaving each morning when getting late for work.
It's a shame, I like the shaver, but Im not prepared to compromise on time taken plus closeness of the shave. Will be returning this to Philips/Boots. ...

Advantages: Well built, close shave, easy to clean, cost effective Disadvantages: cleaning unit isn't necessary (hence 4 stars), can be cleaned easily using hot water..
Recently purchased this product, first time using an electric shaver, as i wanted to try an alternative to mach 3 (expensive blades). The shaver comes well packaged and looks very professional, there is a charger stand to keep the shaver upright (which features a small cltck) and a metal travel case to protect the shaver when travelling, the shaver itself also features a travel lock so not to waste the battery. The battery life is very good, it takes ... ...or you can charge for 3 minutes if you need a quick shave. The shaver features 3 shave settings - sensitive for a long slow shave, normal, and fast for those who lack time in their morning routine. I haven't found a great difference in the settings as each provides a very close shave, although if you do have the time, the slow setting is recommended. ...
