This was our first attempt at home-made ice-cream and we were all very happy with the results. The children especially enjoyed making (and eating) their own ice-cream, especially my daughter who is allergic to cow's milk, as we can make chocolate ice cream especially for her, using soya milk.
However, the cooling disk must be frozen for 18 hours prior to use and the machine can only produce 1 litre at a time (i.e. every 18 hours), unless you invest in an additional block. Also, once the mixture is in the machine, it takes 50 minutes for it to thicken. The price does make it very attractive, especially for novice users like us. The ice-cream produced has a good consistency and the recipe book included contains some pretty varied and interesting suggestions. All the recipes we tried were easy to follow and gave good results.
One word of warning, though - be careful to keep the cooling disk flat in the freezer, otherwise the blue liquid leaks out and it no longer gets cold enough to freeze the ice-cream!

Welcome to Ciao. I like this machine a lot having looked at several rivals before the Phillips got my money - Im racking my brains to what the cooling disc is - dont you mean the bowl?? And whats more, where is the blue liquid coming from?? Aside from this Id mention where you got this machine from and where its available. Lakeland Plastics gave it a thumbs up in their product guides, so apart from the fact that it doesnt have its own freezing motor, its quite a good wee gadget. Have fun with yours! Nar
