At last, I can shave without a rash
Advantages: Easy to refill and recharge, Fast Charge, Long lasting battery Disadvantages: None

I stopped wet shaving about 3 months ago when on holiday with my family, my granddad mentioned using electric shavers and said that he finds it a lot better than wet shaving. I was given a rubbish electric razor a few years ago and as my hair wasn't the thickest it was quite hard to use the razor as it just glided over the top of the hair. For the last 3 months that same razor has been working well and has done quite a good job. It got to December and my mum asked me if I wanted a new shaver as a gift for Christmas, I browsed the net and Amazon had good savings on their mens grooming products. One offer caught my attention the most, this was the Phillips Nivea Coolskin HS8060, RRP of Ģ150 down to Ģ60. This razor comes with a charging/refilling station which you would usually have to pay more for. Looking at the other models in the range, they were more expensive but without a charging station, so it paid to have the charge station even if I wasn't likely to use it.
The charge station is roughly 5"x3" at the base and stands at about 7" tall, it comes with your normal 2 pin plug, I wish it had an adapter of some kind to put a normal 3 pin plug on it easily as there isn't much space in our bathroom so I would like to keep it plugged in in my bedroom. On the side of the charge stand there is a place to clip the trimmer attachment. There is a bottle of lotion included and is simple to use either way you choose to fill your razor, if you put it in the stand you just need to twist the top and turn it upside down into the hole at the back of the stand, it is then ready to dispense when you put the razor into it. There is also a little travel charger which is quite small, it is round and about 2.5" across and about 1.5" high, it would do the job while on holiday as the lotion in the razor should last the duration of your holiday. There is also a trimmer which is the same as your usual hair trimmer but slightly smaller, it is interchangeable with the razor head and it is used for trimming rather than shaving.
When I first took it all out of the box I couldn't understand how the razor was suppose to stay in the charger as it didn't want to clip in as it says it does in the instructions, however when it was all installed properly with the lotion bottle in place, you put the razor into it's home and when you push back it clicks into place and latches onto the sides of the razor. Once the razor is clipped in it will then start to charge as well as fill the lotion unit on the back of the razor, to completely fill it took maybe 15-20 seconds. It says in the manual to charge for 90 minutes before first use which is what I did.
The instruction booklet is quite thick but most of it is other languages, the English section is only 20 pages and pretty straight forward. It mentions in it that your skin may take a couple of weeks to get use to the way the razor shaves although after my first shave with it I had minimal rash and no spots which I usually get. The second shave, I did get a bit of a rash on my neck but it didn't last very long and it wasn't itchy. I am extremely pleased with the closeness of the shave and I no longer get ay rash since my second shave, it is possibly the closest shave I have had, even comparing it with wet shavers and the use of the lotion makes my skin feel extremely soft.
I have seen the lotion for around Ģ7 and not knowing how much to use the first time or how long it is likely to last I didn't want to go over the top and use too much of it the first time. I probably didn't use as much as I should, but you can tell when you are using enough as the razor glides over your skin. The bottle is 75ml and it is suppose to last 3 months with daily use. The razor is said to last 40 minutes from a full charge, I managed to get 33 shaves out of it from it's first charge and filled the lotion 4 times including the first initial fill and another fill when the battery needed charging.
New shaving heads are recommended every 2 years and I have seen these for around Ģ25-Ģ30, they are easy to change and just pull off and push on. Each individual head can be removed for extra cleaning.
Advantages: Easy clean. Close shave. Use in shower. Good battery life. Built-in Nivea dispenser Disadvantages: Doesn't catch all stubble straight away
...and because I trust the Philips brand. I also liked that it was very easy to clean: you just have to run it under a tap, whereas other razors are a bit more tricky. It also looks quite sporty and can be used in the shower as it's completely waterproof.
The first use was brilliant. It was clean and so much closer than I imagined it would be. It almost felt closer than a wet shave. Subsequent shaves have slowed down a bit and I find that I have to ... ...to get rid of all the stubble. Consequently I find that shaving with this takes me longer than a manual shave. I find this a little annoying but I'm sticking with it for now.
At the end of the shave, I end up with a close shave and my skin feels a lot more protected since several layers have not been taken off, as they are with a manual razor. However, because I have to keep going over the same areas of skin to get rid of all the stubble (it doesn't ...

Advantages: Nivea gel provides less irratation, Great battery life, Very close shave Disadvantages: No built in trimmer, Travel pouch could have been better, Charging stand is large
...the travelling pouch, the old philips nivea razors came with a nice zip travel pouch. This one is a kind of wrap around effort that you wrap around the razor and accessories and close it with velcro a slight disappointment. All in all a good razor and i would recommend it to anyone. ...

Advantages: Very good for sensitive skin Disadvantages: Expensive
...is a new shaver by philips that works in combination with nivea for men shaving conditioner.
With the shaver you recieve a botle of the conditioner, a stand charger, a fine trimmer attatchment for sideburns and the like, a soft carrycase, a cover and a small brush to keep it clean! This shaver has a section in the back that carries the nivea moisturiser, during shaving you can press a button to release some of this moisturiser out of the heads ontop ... ...perfect for sensitive skin. Sometimes electric shavers can pull the hairs out of your skin and you are left with a rash and spots. The experiance of a shave with this item is great. The design is very ergonomical and fits in your hand very sweetly. The head itself has what I like to think of as suspension. This means it tracks the contours of your face making everything much smoother! This model comes with a stand that automatically refills the back ...

...box. This is the only Philips shaver (I've only ever bought Philips shavers) that hasn't given me a 100% painless, quick and easy shave. For my face. I bought this shaver in boots about a month or so ago, it was on a 1/2 price offer for about Ģ65.
Few point of interest, the shaver itself doesn't hold very much actual shaving conditioner. But then, I'm not really used to using this stuff, so maybe I was wanting to use too much.. but it seemed to ... ...shave.
Shaving performance-wise, it's hard to give this shaver more than 8 out of 10. I found that I had to track over many times to remove all stubble.. looking at the foils, it looks like there is only one set of slots, which feels like a step backwards for shaving technology. Also, I found that the head is actually quite painful to use, even dry; it sometims feels like it's pulling out hairs rather than cutting them.
In use, after sticking at ...

Review of Philips HS 8060 Moisturizing /COOL SKIN
Advantages: easy to use, very quick and has dispenceable shaving conditioner (if you like it) Disadvantages: very big charger, extremly expensive others are better and cheaper
It is such a big advantage to go from messy time wasting in the morning with a conventional razor to something that creates no mess and only takes 1-2 minutes to use. The three pivoting heads is also a good feature as it makes it easy around the chin area and on the neck. However you do have to press down if you want to remove all the stubble in one go, and can be quite a pain as it has a removable and changable head to a trimmer that sometimes falls ... ...However the dispencing charger unit is very big. But you can use the charger in which it only has a charging stand and no dispencer which is very small. Some people may disagree but I do feel that the shaving conditioner that comes out the head is a waste of time and probably only add to the expense. ...
