I am not a fan of philips home theater systems, yes they usually look nice and have some interesting looking speakers but they just don't perform to the same level as the competiton.

This system will play both DVD and cd, it has an HDMI interface and it is a progressive scan unit, however, it will not play any burnt dvds regardless of format, it will not play DivX but it will play burnt cds.

The instruction manual is easy to use, the wired speakers come with enough wire the longest wire being 25 feet for the rear speakers and the unit has a nice remote.

The downside is the lack of features and lack of inputs as it is an integrated player reciever it has only one set of inputs.
