I can plug them into my laptop or MP3 player. They're mostly used for my laptop though just as general speakers but I do play a lot of music. Next down are the general speakers which are just as good, if not better, than speakers I've heard before. Then there are the bass radiators - the main selling point for this product. I thought that these would be ideal for university as no subwoofer would mean no complaints from the person below but the 'Bass Radiators' built into the speakers would mean that I wouldn't miss out on sound. These live up to my expectations. I can plug them into my laptop or MP3 player. They're mostly used for my laptop though just as general speakers but I do play a lot of music. Each speaker has three main parts to it as pointed out on the very informative box. At the top are the tweeters for high tones. I can't say I listen to many high tones so I can't really comment on them. Next down are the general speakers which are just as good, if not better, than speakers I've heard before. Then there are the bass radiators - the main selling point for this product. They give an amazing effect. Ok, you won't feel the thudding under your feet like with a subwoofer but you don't really expect to with desktop speakers. You can however see the vibration in the speakers in the middle and the bass radiators. I like the feeling of really seeing my speakers in action. The only problem I find with the vibration though is that because I have a lot of wires and stuff on my desk, they're always vibrating against something so at the middle volumes where it's just loud enough to vibrate, you can often hear it vibrating against paper or what have you. The solution is to turn it up (or tidy your desk but that's easier said than done). They can and do go loud though this really depends on what you're playing. The volume control on the side goes not quite all the way round. I usually have it set to a quarter but the other day I had to have it set to half way round for a DVD though I don't consider that a problem. While watching another DVD, Hero, I had the crystal clear sound of raindrops in the room with me. Generally the appearance is good. The actual speakers look very modern with the polished front though the power block is a bigger than normal but I think that there's an amplifier in there too. The acutal speakers are about 28cm high by 8 by 6cm though they are just my rough measurements. The volume control is on the side of the left speaker. Even though it's more or less flush with the side (a fact which I've heard some complaints about), it does not pose a problem when changing the volume and it's also illuminated by a circle of blue light around it. The feet don't look very stable but I've had no problems with them and there are no other possible design faults I can find. They generally cost about £60 but I have seen them sold for up to £80. I bought them from amazon and I've seen them in PCWorld too though amazon has free shipping. These were definitely money well spent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
