That’s the first response I get from people when they see the Nike logo on the player (or on the remote).
----------------------------------------------- *********** What is it? *********** -----------------------------------------------
It’s a Personal CD-mp3 Player. It plays Standard Audio CDs and mp3s that have been burnt to a CDR or CDRW.
By the way, the picture you see on the page is NOT it. See further down my op for a link.
The psacd12 is a joint effort from PHILIPS and NIKE. Nike helped design the player along with a number of other similar audio devices in the range.
----------------------------------------------- *********** Features *********** -----------------------------------------------
- Built for movement - High Resolution LCD display (dot matrix) - 24 hour battery life (15 for CD Audio) - ESP - Modes - Dynamic Bass Boost (EQ) - Beep on/off - Auto turn off - Resume feature - Plays Audio and mp3 discs - Firmware upgrade-able (haven’t tried it but instructions sound nice and straight forward)
*** LCD Display ***
Dot matrix High Resolution display.
Displays track number, album number, track title, track duration, track name/artist(scrolls title twice) (if included in filename), the mode currently in use, ESP status, replace battery and low battery message. Displays total number of tracks on disc, when stopped. Possibly more but I can’t remember.
***ELECTRONIC SKIP PROTECTION ( aka: ESP )***
480 second ESP (mp3) THAT'S A WHOPPING 8 MINS! 200 second ESP (Audio CD)
Magic ESP / Power Saving ESP
Just thought I’d point out that I don’t even need to use it because the design is sooooo good. I can literally shake the player (without turning on ESP) whilst listening to music with no interruptions.
I once had one where the ESP was [BLEEP!]. Skipped no matter what. Got rid of that one in no time and shortly bought this one. ^_^
*** MODES ***
- Repeat Shuffle Album - Repeat Shuffle All - Repeat Shuffle - Repeat Shuffle All - Repeat Album - Repeat All
Looks spiffy! Very stylish. At first I wasn’t sure about the orange area and buttons but I thought I’d buy it (also taking other things into consideration) since it looked quite good compared to other ones. Anyway, bought it and realized orange isn’t so bad J. The player is sturdy. The edges are a rubbery material, as those are the places that are prone to collision I guess. The rest of the player is a bright silver and the Nike ‘Swoosh’ logo is very visible, more so than the Philips logo on the bottom of the player. Of course, there’s the orange rubbery bit where the button and LCD display are.
Very attractive and modern looking design. Their other products in the range have colour coded using this colour scheme.
Digital Remote – The remote looks very trendy. Provides the basic functions (Play/Pause, Previous Track, Previous Album, Next Track, Next Album, Stop, Hold and Volume (with dial)). You attach it to your clothing using strong magnets. Place one on the inside of your clothing, attach the remote to it from the outside and voila! Very good idea but can sometimes fall off but usually secure. I thought the magnet idea was very unique. It also has an LCD display to display the track number (briefly), album number, low battery message, track duration, and hold.
Butterfly Clip – This is another magnetic accessory. This lets you hold all the wires in one place to avoid tangling. Another innovative idea from them.
In Philips’s words…
“Smart Wire Management Magnetic anchors let you position the remote control for easiest access. The magnetic butterfly clip stows the slack and routes the chords where they won't be a nuisance.”
Hand strap – You strap the CD player in a rubber strap provided and wear it on your hand so you can go running with it. Neat idea, in my opinion BUT your hands can get sweaty. Also, if you trip and try to stop yourself from landing on your face whilst wearing it…..*CRACK!* o_O;;;
The strap is made of rubber and seems to protect player but the LCD display part is open and if you land on a stone, then you risk cracking the screen. Landing on a flat surface might be ok for the screen but the player isn’t shock proof.
Headphones – Mine came with a pair but I do not like them (I like how they look though). They are uncomfortable and they are not secure enough. They fell off quite frequently so they’re not quite so “designed for movement” like the player itself. It has butterfly clip attached for wire management.
I’ve been using earphones I got separately. The ones with hooks to hook behind your ear to secure the ear pieces.
*****Please note ******
I think they’ve replaced the headphones and the hand strap with better ones/accessories. (Don’t quote me on this).
The listed accessories are different to what I’ve got.
- Psaduro Headphones (with ear hooks) - Sport pack with waistband extension
...and I MISSED OUT! I would have liked to get a waistband and those headphones with mine. ----------------------------------------------- ********* Also includes ********** -----------------------------------------------
- User Manual (obviously o_O;;; ) - 1 Year warranty - DC Power Adapter - Software CD (MusicMatch, for ripping mp3 tracks (and for burning?))
----------------------------------------------- ********* Ease of use ********** -----------------------------------------------
Very easy and straight forward. I only worked out how to turn on Bass 1, Bass 2, Treble yesterday (6 months later) but because I hadn’t bothered to read the instructions. ^_^;;;
The manual is quite straight forward and includes diagrams.
The software….I don’t use the software but fairly easy for the more computer literate. I’ve used the software years ago but I use other software now.
----------------------------------------------- ********** Battery Life *********** -----------------------------------------------
2 x AA (included)
24 hours for mp3. (not sure if this is accurate though) 15 hours for Audio CDs.
With ESP – Dunno With Magic ESP - Dunno
I use recharge-able batteries (yes, I’m cheap :P) so I don’t usually get near the 24 hours with my mp3s but it’s still good life. For me anyway.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- *********** GOOD points about the player ********** ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Built for movement - Nice remote - Easy to use (at least, I find it easy) - Stylish and sturdy design - Electronic Skip Protection (not that you need it ;) ) - ‘No-look’ buttons - 24 hour battery life - Plays mp3s - Fit 10 hours of music (150 songs) per disc! - Resume-able - Dynamic Bass Boost - Superb sound quality
Leave your Precious CD collection at home! I’d be really [BLEEP]’ed off if I scratched my ones.
I can HIGHLY Recommend this audio player to anyone who’s looking for one.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- *********** BAD points about the player ********** ----------------------------------------------------------------------
The ‘No-look’ buttons can be difficult to work out. The idea is that you do not need to look and are able to feel what all the buttons are. This applies to the Volume controls, Previous Track, Next Track, Previous Album, Next Album, Play/Pause and Stop buttons. The volume controls and the Play/Pause buttons are find but the rest do not stick out like these three. They are engraved into the rubber and is more difficult to differentiate. The Stop button isn’t bad because it’s next to the Play/Pause button.
The sound starts low. No biggy. Every time you start up the player, the volume is very low and you need to increase it on the player. This is so there's no risk of damaging our hearing when we turn it on but I think they could have had the volume start a bit higher.
The main thing I don’t like about the player is the location of the battery compartment. It is located under the lid and under where the CD would normally be. To replace the batteries, you need to open the lid and remove the CD. I would prefer to leave the CD where it is, especially if I’m outside.
Non-Programmable (not important for me)
No back light for the LCD screen.
Scratches easily. (Same with remote)
Can only display track duration (no remain).
Also, the magnets can get lost.
Don’t let any of these put you off!
----------------------------------------------- ********* Where to buy ********** -----------------------------------------------
I bought mine from Dixons on 10/05/03. I also saw it in an Argos catalogue for the same price.
I paid £99.99. Not too bad. I would prefer to pay a bit less but the quality of the player makes it worth while, so no regrets.

I'll keep it short and sweet so it doesnt take an age to read.
Disadvantages
1. The headphones arent really the best on the market, although the remote on it is good you'll find the headphones are pretty uncomfortable. You can if you want change the original and use the remote with another set of headphones but this makes for an overly long cable.
2. If you ... ...find it constantly likes to pause or jump.
3. The battery compartment is actually under the cd itself., this can become pretty annoying when your batteries run out and you have to take the cd out while on the move and fiddle about with it. It's also pretty awkward to take them out.
Advantages
1. With the battery compartment only holding 2 batteries it lasts suprisingly long, even with rechargeable batteries which is good if you want to use the ...
