Manufacturer's product description
The Philips CDRW 400 series CD-Rewriter contains everything you need to get started recording CDs immediately, including IDE and audio cables, recording software, and blank discs. The CDRW 400 series is an internal 16X reading, 4X writing, and 4X rewriting drive that allows you to create your own audio and data CDs on 650MB discs. It records to both CD-R and CD-RW discs. CD-R discs can be read by almost all CD-ROM drives and cost just $1 to $2 each so they are great for sharing files. They also can only be recorded once so they are ideal for backing up your valuable data or creating archives. CD-RW discs provide the convenience of being able to write and rewrite to the same disc over and over again so they are perfect for storing digital photos and multimedia presentations. PC compatible, the CDRW 400 series has EIDE/ATAPI interface for easy installation. With an EIDE/ATAPI interface, there are no clumsy jumpers to fumble with or complicated controller configurations. Installing it is as simple as mounting it in your 5.25-inch half height bay and tightening a couple of screws. Once you've completed these steps, you'll be recording your own CDs in no time. The included Write2CD recording software features a user-friendly interface designed by Philips with a recording engine by CeQuadrat. The program automatically launches when you insert a blank CD. You can then create your own CDs by simply dragging and dropping data, sound, and multimedia files onto your CD. You can rename, and delete, and create new folders on your CD. Write2CD also has a console for recording from external sources such as tape players, hi-fi systems, synthesizers, and microphones. You can also use it to make professional looking inlay cards, booklets, and CD labels. Just edit the text, select the graphics, and then print them in color.

...settings to make sure your PC is using the camera's microphone.
Philips is one of the more realistic vendors when it comes to rating its camera's performance. It rates the PCA646VC at up to either 30fps or 15fps, depending on the size of the window in which the video is displayed. Smaller windows allow for higher frame rates, a fact that most vendors ignore in their ratings. And the type of connection through which you're transmitting the video has a great influence on frame rate--videoconferencing across the Internet generally doesn't provide frame rates much higher than 15fps, regardless of the camera's speed.
The PCA646VC relies on Microsoft NetMeeting for videoconferencing. The software is not included with the camera, but the camera requires Windows 98 for its USB support, and the Windows 98 CD-ROM contains a copy of Net...

Advantages: Great picture quality Disadvantages: fumbly stand
...I bought this camera --my fourth one about 6 months ago. I've had Intel create and share, Pace usb and Samsung usb cams before but am sticking with this one!
Superb overall build quality and added advantage of an integrated mic!
The picture itself compares favourably with all the others including the excellent Intel offering. The design is a little odd and the camera is supported on a plastic tripod which nestles the camera-in and can be a bit un-steady, but the picture quality overcomes this little problem. The software that comes with it is also useful although I think that apart from Microsoft Netmeeting you don't really need any other Video-conferencing software at all-- if you want to talk to people you know that is!!!!
Philips have a very good web-site for support as well but you may only need it for the latest drivers on occasion....

After owning a dvd/vhs player for about 4 years and the dvd player finally deciding not to work at all, after a period of it sometimes playing dvds and sometimes not depending on the mood it was in, it was decided it was time to get a new one. As we now... more
I have fairly sensitive skin and up until now I have always used a wet shave razor. Wet razors didn't leave my skin burning, but they did leave the skin feeling very exposed and would cause it to dry out. Since I'd read that electric razors were good in... more
I was attracted to purchase this DVD player a while ago for its DivX capabilities (something not too many players have).

Having wet shaved my whole life, I've decided to invest for an electric dry shaver. Why? Because wet shaving is a pain for me (I switched from Gilette Fusion Power) and I simply don't have enough time to wet shave. Trying not to disappoint my first... more
