I had a fax/phone for years and it finally gave up the ghost a few months back, on looking for a new one I wanted: • Something compact – I run a home office and don’t have much space • Easy to use • Quick to set up • Looking good • Hands free option • Walk about hand set • Fax
The Philips magic 3voice dect sms has all this and more.
The manual it comes with is relatively simple understand, and if for some reason you loose it, the machine it’s self has a help function and will print out the info you need.
I set the machine in just a few minutes – literally a matter of plugging it in, connecting it to the phone line, inputting the date and time and putting batteries in to the handset.
The walk about handset is optional, it was what I wanted but it does come with a fixed hand set if you prefer.
It has various setting for volume on the ringer and the ring can be off when just receiving faxes, it also has a timer so that the volume of the ring can be off at night time - useful for me, with kids in the house!
Telephone book
It has a telephone book – this is really easy to input and as it has a keyboard adding names is simple. The address book can be assessed via the machine and also the hands free.
Hands free
From the machine you can access hands free just with the touch of a button, this can be done on answering a call or during a call – it can also revert back to a private conversation just as quickly.
It is possible to link to other phones but I have not tried this.
Answering machine
Very easy to put in your message and quick to change it if you want to. You can have as long as you require for the out going message. Big light flashes to show you have a new message – no problems playing messages and deleting them.
It is also possible during a phone call to record the conversation – this is not something I have tried so I can’t make any comment on that function.
Faxing
Faxing is much like any other machine I have used – it is simple and quick and when you receive faxes the quality of the printout is very good – (it is only a black and white printer not colour) It is also possible to send the same item to more than one recipient if you need to do a mail shot – up to 25 numbers.
I have had the machine for quite a few months now and haven’t yet had to change the ink but it looks to be simple and judging by the rest of the machine I would be very surprised if it wasn’t
Copying
I have a photo copier and therefore it is not a function I need – but I have tried it and the quality was good.
SMS
So far I have not managed this – to be honest it’s not something I would particularly use unless I had lost my mobile. It says that you have to have caller id for this to work – which I have got – but when I tested it the message just bounced back to me. From the manual I think I may have to contact my phone service provider to ask to be allowed to use this function, I don’t know yet whether there is an extra charge for that or if it is billed as a call or fax - when I find out I will let you know!!!!
Think that is everything!!!!
To finish…..
I find this a reliable machine – perfect for a home or small office.
