Don't be off put by not being able trim while it's charging as the battery life is very good.

...As I'd been happy with Philips previously I looked around and found that the choice was basically QT4020 or QT4045. At first I was somewhat skeptical about the idea of having a vacuum trimmer, but based on positive reviews I thought I'd give it a try. The idea also appealed to my other half who for some reason isn't a fan of finding the toilet seat covered in beard trimmings so I ordered from Amazon for Ģ27.14. First impression is that unit is noticeably ... ...vacuum unit, but it's still perfectly manueverable. As far as perfroming its primary role this is a good trimmer. At 1 - 3 length cuts its performs well and most importantly the toilet seat remains beardless. At length 0 (no guard) it's not quite as good as my previous trimmer due to a retractable guard used to deflect hair into the reservoir, however this doesn't prove to be a major issue and in any case i generally use the 0 cut in preparation ...

This is an excellent piece of kit! I find it very easy to use with a great range of adjustment for length. The cut is selected by means of a ring incorporated in the body of the trimmer which when turned brings the cutting edge nearer or further from the comb. The desired position of which there are nine (1-9) is diplayed on the ring. There is a hair collection chamber which I must admit I thought was a gimmick but I now admit that I am wrong and ... ...contacts the beard is spring loaded and is supposed to adjust to the contour of the beard. The jury is out on whether or not this is effective or indeed required but either way it doesn't matter the trimmer cuts the beard effectively.
There is of course the charger for the rechargeable battery and a brush for cleaning. I find there is little hair to clean and any there is falls away with a gentle tap. The unit cannot be washed.

Advantages: Different length settings and built in vacuum cleaner. Disadvantages: Does not vacuum up all hair clippings.
...so it does still require some cleaning up afterwards. The battery life has so far been very good and does not require constant or frequent charging. The Philips QT4045 has been the most reliable beard trimmer that I have tried and I would definitely recommend it to others. ...
