Ashamed of your mobile? Mine's a (still) a PHILIPS SAVVY - and the answer's no! I have tried updating at least three times but always end up coming back "home" to my trusty old Savvy!
I have a feeling that Philips is no longer producing its Savvy any more, therefore if you want to buy one you may have to search the free-ads or second hand shops. Brand new they retail at £39.99 and are available on all major networks (BT,T-Mobile,Orange,Vodaphone and Virgin).
The phone itself is fairly large, I would say about the same size as the Nokia 3310 but perhaps a little more bulky, and of course has a small aerial. Don't let it's appearance put you off. If you are not over worried about image and you want a phone that's simplicity itself to use then I couldn't recommend PHILIPS SAVVY more.
The phone is a robust, curvy shape with well spaced rubberised buttons. The buttons are a good size and are marked clearly. It is very simple to use and all functions can be reached via the red clearly marked "menu" button. In order to nagivate around the Savvy's functions there is a large button in the centre top...there are four arrows on this button at points N,S,E & W. These allow you to scroll up and down and side to side on the menu. To "go back" you simply need to press the menu button until you have reached the desired point.
Ringtones
Philips Savvy comes with an extensive collection of ringtones - there's something to suit everyone. I wont mention them all, but will tell you that there's a choice of classical..Mozart's 40th, Bach's toccata in fugue, a number of plain ones, Old macdonald! and many just plain funky ones. The best one's called "sonar"..it sounds just like a submarine's navigation system!
Texting
No overcomplicated predictive texting here...each key has three letters and a number on it,so if you want "A" press once, "B" press twice and so on..make a mistake and press the button on the top right marked C for clear and it rubs it out. You can change to capital letters by simply pressing the bottom left button and pressing again to revert to lower case. All the punctuation's there as well - all at the touch of one button & none of this flicking from screen to screen like you have too on so many of these so called up to datephones. When you go to actually send your text..you can manually type in the number before you write the message or retrieve the number from the 40 number "phone book" you can choose from a range of emoticons. If you are sending to someone with another savvy ,then they will receive a proper 3d image, if not then you will get this sort of thing :)
Overall with this phone the plus points for me are as follows
although it has a small display screen and you need to scroll when composing or reading messages,it is set back from the outer casing....believe me, if you drop it as often as I do then its a fantastic feature
The tones are nice and loud..but can be controlled of course
Nearly forgot about the voice activated dialling. You can record yourself speaking the names of the people in your phone book, press the up arrow on the central button, speak the name and hey presto it starts ringing!!!
The only downside I would say is that you can't buy extra clip on covers for it, or extra ringtones if the Savvy's extensive choice is not enough! It doesn't have a "vibrate" function. If it did it would be perfect.
If you have got a PHILIPS SAVVY-then don't be ashamed of it..if you haven't - then don't be ashamed to ask for one!!!!
