Us women are complicated animals aren’t we … ? We want to appear as if we are not wearing a scrap of make up, but we still want to achieve a flawless complexion to anyone close enough to be inspecting … A no make-up look gained through wearing make up cleverly - is it any wonder our men are confused!
I’m a lucky lass me, and was happy to find some facial assistance under our Christmas tree this year from my hubby, in the form of a box of goodies put together by U.S company “Philosophy” which he had purchased via QVC.
The Philosophy range is not one I have used before, although I have often commented on
how nicely packaged, although minimalist (and expensive) their products always appeared. Perhaps part of the attraction was also the clever wording used on all their packaging - their little paragraphs of wisdom relating in some way to the product and it‘s use.
Onto the product then … I have in front of me the box that contains this magical tint. It’s unassuming enough, a regular lipstick-sized container with purple fingerprints arranged in the shape of flowers. Written on the box is simply “the supernatural lip & cheek tint” and underneath ’philosophy: natural is super’.
Open this up and you have a matt finish tube with the aforementioned signage - the tube is see-through allowing you an insight to the cherry red liquid formula inside (it does not go on this shade!). The black top unscrews to reveal a wand for ease of application - not unlike a regular gloss wand (see pic) it is a decent size and will not give you the feeling your painting the Forth Bridge!
When you open this up, you will smell how gorgeous the liquid is - it reminds me of raspberries and is quite strong, apparently it’s supposed to taste of pomegranate but as I have never tasted one I can’t give comment! On application to the lips it tastes every inch as good as it smells, although keep licking and the taste does fade.
The effect of Supernatural lip & cheek tint is nothing short of brilliant.
Application to the lips is effortless and the tint allows you plenty of time to cover the lips evenly - and even if you stray from the lip line by accident, you have time to wipe this away before it “sets”. The liquid appears as a red translucent shade - giving a very natural sheer rosebud effect. I find one application of this will see me through at least 3 hours before it wears off - it leaves no horribly obvious line around the edges of your lips either, like a lipstick would do - it just fades out. Eating, drinking and heavens above .. Kissing will not budge this. There is no “tightness” or inflexibility to the lips whilst wearing (I’m thinking Lipcote here …) or any of that gloopiness that you may get from a gloss. It just stains - simple as that.
Applied to cheeks, this is equally impressive. Five or six “smudges” with your wand over the cheek area (I tend to apply only to the apples of my cheeks ie; the fullest part) should suffice. Pat the liquid in using your middle finger - try not to rub, you don’t want to look streaky! The Supernatural liquid will dry quicker on the cheeks, so don’t hang about too long! Straight away you will notice a healthy glow - remember the last time you took a brisk walk in the cold and how flushed your cheeks were? ( or there’s the other ‘pursuit’ which will give much the same effect, but hey - that’s only temporary!). This effect will last all day until you wash it off. Try not to apply too much at once or you will look like Aunt Sally from Wurzel Gummage, which is not what this look is about …
To conclude, I think this is an essential item for any woman’s make-up bag and a sure fire space saver as it multi-tasks. I have even seen suggestion that strippers use this on their nipples believe it or not, for a healthy rosy appearance - now there’s a piece of trivia!
Seriously though, this comes in a 6.5ml tube and averages £13. I received mine as part of a box set as a gift - so prices will vary. QVC sell this on and off on it’s own, but it tends to sell out quickly. Ebay is another place you can find Philosophy products cheaply - currently there are a couple showing.
Pics below - incidentally, I would have included pics of wearing this but getting over a cold - lips not attractive right now to say the least!
