The course suits me down to the ground. I like to think and reason (and generally feel intellectually superior to others) and the course enables me to do all of this.
The way that the University structures its course is 8 units split over two terms which allows you to chose a wide variety of courses.

However, the freedom to choose the subjects you want to do is great. You can tailor your degree to suit you. I even ended up doing a course on fairy tales which I really enjoyed and which also counts towards my degree.

There are then some course from your degree subject which are compulsory. In the first year of philosophy these are Metaphysics and Ethics. (Metaphysics I loved, Ethics I didn't enjoy as much - it was my least favourite subject).
However, the freedom to choose the subjects you want to do is great. You can tailor your degree to suit you. I even ended up doing a course on fairy tales which I really enjoyed and which also counts towards my degree.
Advantages: Lots of freedom, broad and deep immersion in the subject Disadvantages: Little feedback, little sense of community
Doing philosophy at UCL can be an unsettling experience. No one will check if you don't attend lectures, tutorials are once a week, with essays every three weeks, and if you don't prepare for these, well, nobody cares.
The course is traditional, you study for 5 compulsory papers, broadly covering the history and major areas of philosophy, and 3 optional ones (details of which are on the departmental website). It's all in the analytic tradition, and there's little exploration of philosophical issues as they apply to other areas at the moment eg. bioethics, the nature of information, cultural relativism. Its definitely straight, traditional philosophy.
If this is really what appeals to you, and you don't mind the difficulties travelling all over London to attend lectures, then I would recommend the course. You are definitely given ...

Three the final year.
I will focus on the course that I have done which is A211, or in English "Philosophy and The Human Situation". This is a level two course and is the first course offered by the OU that is focused solely on philosophy. If you are new to studying there two courses with some philosophy in them, Introduction to Humanities and Understanding Social Change (this is related to social sciences generally).
I previously did Understanding Social Change, which has some philosophy, most of it related to political philosophy. This is interlinked with the economics and politics. The actual philosophy element is quite limited, although there is a lot of emphasis on how to study. This includes how to read, take notes and produce structured essay. Not much is related to philosophy directly. I think if you have previously attended ...

am about to graduate SOuthampton University and I have to say I have really enjoyed the course here. I study Philosophy and Politics and have found the Philosophy really interesting. I had little experiance in Philosophy when I started the course, (only very slight knowledge on Plato and Aristotle), but feel that I made a good choice.
In the first year you start of with the basics with modules available on philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle and Descartes, as well as modules on a variety of areas of philosophers such as Eastern Philosophy.
In the second year you carry on with the historical perspective on Philosophy exploring philosphers such as Spinoza, Berkeley, Hume and Kant in a chronological order and have the option to pick modules on such areas as Language, Aesthetics and Mind.
The third year you have freedom to pick ...
