One thing that often separates an average photo from a great one is the quality of light. Real life rarely serves up the sort of light we'd like (especially in the UK) and so we have to fall back on post processing and editing to tweak things.
To the inexperienced user, this can be a bit of a hit and miss affair so I was very pleased to spot a copy of PhotoshopElements Drop Dead Lighting Techniques in the bookshop. The author Barry Huggins runs a multimedia and training consultancy at www.matrixtraining.com and has had his images used around the world so he ought to know a thing or two.

Adobe PhotoshopElements 4 aims to be everything the photographer wants for tweaking and fixing their images. Whilst the professionals prefer its more expensive big brother Photoshop CS, PhotoshopElements isn't to be sniffed at and offers 80% of the power for 10% of the price whilst making many tasks much easier.
The biggest surprise coming from version 3 is that the file browser has gone. Adobe, what are you thinking? Well, it's clear what they're thinking, they want you to use the Photoshop Album interface which merged in to PhotoshopElements with version 3. Adobe PhotoshopElements 5 is a software package used to manipulate and enhance digital images, whether they are from your digital camera, scanned images or pictures from the internet. I mainly use the software to improve the pictures I take with my digital camera; altering the contrast, brightness, colour saturation etc, and also cropping and enlarging images. I also regularly alter pictures for documents and other applications, to make them smaller by compressing the images so they don't take as much disk space up.
The program is split into two main functions:
~ Editor: Allows photos and images to be enhanced and edited using a range of different tools.
