the book is split up into 3 sections, which are colour coordinated:
the performer in action the performer as a person the performer in a social setting
these sections relate to the 3 major parts of the syllabus:
physiology and biomechanics psychology sociology and history
which makes it easy to find a particular section or topic that is being studied at the time.
the book consists of 698 pages, which makes it quite bulky, and heavy especially on the shoulders on a long walk to school! At the end of each topic is a glossary of important terms that are used throughout the course, which comes in useful when trying to get those few extra marks! there are many pictures and diagrams throughout the book to stimulate the visual learners amongst us!
the book is priced at around £23.99, which is about the usual price for a text book. the good thing about this book is that it comes with a cd rom, (the whole contents of the book are contained on this, along with a few extra pointers). the cd rom is useful in searching for information that fits into a number of topics, as it allows you to search for key words, or just search in specific sections of the book.
the cover of the book is mainly red and yellow with images of people performing various sports. it makes the book stand out as it is bright and colourful, something which the diagrams and pictures inside also follow.
there are key points and questions in each topic, which are useful particularly when revising.
there are no particular disadvantages about this book, a text book is bound to be bulky, and the cdrom means that you dont have to carry the book around if you dont want to.
overall a very good book with a clear layout, covering the essential topics relating to sport and physical education at A level!

I purchased it for the purposes of an HND in sports science to get a grounding in the subject areas. It is good for the basics but at Higher education levels of study more indepth texts would be required for referencing purposes.
It is more suited to AS and A level study and has good little investigations and exam styke questions to test your learning as you go along.It gives refences at the end ... ...if you wish which I found useful for HND studies.
Also included with the book was a cdrom which is a handy feature. I found it a lot easier to bring this to college rather than carry the book in each day, lazy I know but sure!!
Anyway all in all I would recommend anyone who is doing a level pe or as level to buy this book, it is invaluable to your studies. If you are studying this at a higher level I would say go in and flick through it first to ...
